wine just lets you emulate windows software on linux, from my experience with linux and ubuntu, it is very unstable and crashes quite often

hmmm. interesting. I've always had registry errors with windows...so I switched to Ubuntu, lol. to each his own I suppose. But there are other programs available on ubuntu for recording. I havent found out which one would be best for me just yet. just putting it out there if anyone has any suggestions. Linux is what I like to use. Although I also am running windows7...I just don't use it much.

i just booted into ubunttu for the hell of it, and i must say its way faster than i remember, it actually supports all my hardware with no fuss and it booted in like 30 seconds, I love the wobbly windows. i recomend everyone make a bootable usb drive for emergency purposes at least, i just wish it would save the preferences when i shut it down.

Linux IS safer than macbooks XOS too. just something all the Apple-riders should consider. More viruses written for windows and X.

haha yeah man. It's funny that I have windows7 pro and never use it. Ubuntu wins for so many reasons.

unfortunately when it comes to audio interfaces (and other usb midi/music devices) linus lacks drivers for many of them..

That is the biggest draw of mac OS for me - core audio/midi.. such a good system

Have you ever used Linux before? Are you suggesting that recording interfaces don't work well with Linux? M-audio and Tascam do. How much MONEY do you need to spend to get anything added to OS X? Apple designed their shit to make people pay for additional programs to remove stuff from your Macintosh even...what a sham! There are people building MIDI devices to work exclusively with Linux. I mean, c'mon dude...MIDI and Linux are both pretty damn Geeky. You gotta dig a little to find what works.

No offence to you...but I'll continue to use my PC with Linux...and I'll find a way to make shit work. Just like with my SP...there's a more affordable route. Macintosh? not really...unless you have money to throw around every corner. Here are some links to educate you:
