But, I can only trigger one pattern.. I need to manually touch the pads on the 404 to trigger the next pattern.. it's not automated. It will not do step sequencing..

ya, but thats not what I mean. bump the 404s pattern sequencer all together and just play the samples on the 404 from the 1200.

Yeah, you can play the samples until your heart bleeds.. but, you cannot build any or save any steps ( patterns ) .. All you can do is play shit (trigger shit) when you midi up the SP 404 to the SP 1200 what good is this for me. I need to build a song. The only thing I'm left to do is either just except the fact that the 404 cannot do song mode and move on.. or do what I do sometimes and use the 404 for resampling and then sample the resampled sounds into my SP 1200 and build the patterns and song with the SP 1200.

I'm sure you can sequence the samples of the 404 from your 1200 and save those sequences on your 1200 and build songs on the sequencer of the 1200, that's what midi is about.

The SP 404 only has midi in. If I use midi in from the 404 to the SP 1200 midi out.. all sounds appear as Empty when I attempt to step program the patterns from the 404. So, I cannot step program an empty sound.

If I use miid in from the 404 to midi thru to the SP 1200 same deal. I'm using Midi Sync on the SP 1200.

The only thing I can think of is perhaps there's some midi parameter that needs to be configured or something else I'm not sure about.. but, so far I have not been successful with trying to midi sequence my patterns with the SP 1200 sequencer. I've only been successful with 1 pattern sequencing.

As far as saving goes since everything appears empty I cannot save either plus more, the SP 1200 has limited space and would not be able to save really lengthy samples like the 404. I would need to speed up samples and then possible suffering from poor quality and sound loss later..

I know you can midi sequence with the Akai S950 and SP 1200 keep in midi both of these machines have midi in , midi thru , and midi out.. so, I really don't know how the workflow goes with the SP 404 and SP 1200..?

im not familiar with the SP1200 much at all. But I know people are triggering S950s with it like you said. If this is possible then its completely possible to do the same with the 404. Its the same thing. The S950 has no sequencer at all. There must be a setting or something you gotta change.

Yep.. Yep.. DJ Frantic was right.. I just dumped the idea of trying to have all my patterns in song mode on the SP 1200 and just had all the sounds from the SP 404 and triggered / sequenced / and did song mode with the SP 1200. I'm still trying to figure out how the ch. assignment works.. so far I am able to trigger only the A and B pad sounds on the SP 404 all the other samples from the card are not being triggered.. so, I needed to resample those sounds to the A or B pads on the 404 to sequence them onto the SP 1200. I'm not sure if there's a way to midi trigger the other sounds on the C - J pads from the SP 404 to the SP 1200?

theres a midi implementation section in there somewhere. Glad it worked for you. SP404 and SP1200 must be a nasty combination ! the fat sound and features of the 1200 and the effects and memory of the 404. You got yourself a nice rig there.

"One day I was playing 'Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos' and it came out real muffled. I couldn't hear any of the high-end part of it. I found out that if you put the phono or quarter-inch jack halfway in, it filters the high frequency. Now I just got the bass part of the sample. I was like, 'Oh, shit, this is the craziest thing on the planet!'" ... Yep.. that's a nice old little trick..

8) .

I can change the midi ch. and match up with the SP 1200's Set Up Midi Parameters.. like ch. 1 on the SP 404 and ch. 1 on the SP 1200 midi parameters. Problem is I'm not sure how to or if at all possible to transmit midi note numbers from Pads C - J.. The manual does not describe doing this.. on page 41 Changing the MIDI Channel (Pad Base Ch) the manual just goes on to mention changing the channels 1 - 15.. but, I'm still left with only A and B pads that can be triggered.. I think I'm stuck with A and B on the SP 1200 since the SP 1200 only has 8 Pads going across plus A - D which is a total of 32 sounds. on the 404 A and B pads is a total of 24 Pads.. .. So, basically I can have up to 24 sounds transmitted so far.. that fills up A - C but nothing on D. Anyone know how to Transmit all the sounds or be able to select which sounds I want to transmit without having to resample them to A and B pads??

I think what you need to do is go up some octave. Think of it like a keyboard. banks A-F play from I think note c1 and on up from there chromatically on channel 1. and g-j play on channel 2 the same way.
