universal bpm on 404sx patterns?

i've been messing around with pattern sequencing and am having the troubles with my patterns setting themselves to the same bpm..is this something i can get around? the manual doesn't mention anything about this, and i've searched for threads in regards to this issue (tried pressing the hold button while setting the pattern bpm?) and can't find a solution. anyone know a trick?

start up bpm 102. current bpm=universal bpm. that's it, there's no workaround. do you have another midi sequencer, if so, use that. if not find a way to remember bpm for a specific pattern. it's a bummer but hey, you're not alone: 303(?),404 and 555 users all suffer this.
