I have been looking at other threads and they have been a help, but I still want to clarify something.

I have a 16gb sdhc, and every sample pad is occupied, all 120 of them, but my card still obviousley has loads of free space (750 mins). So I need to open up space for new sample pads. I assume this is what 'backup save' does. So I saved everything onto pad 1 in the backup mode.

Now that I have everything saved in the backup, can I erase all of my samples and patterns? Then will I be able to load them all whenver I want to play them? Basically, does the backup function save everything onto an internal memory in the 404sx, so that if after backing them up, I erase all my samples and patterns, they will still be available? Or does it back them up onto the card so even if I erase the pads/samples, they will still be on the card backed up?

Thanks!

AFAIK the sp404sx has no internal memory at all, so your backup data will be on the memory card. Your backup won´t be affected if you erase the samples.

peace

I did a backup to pad one just as you said you were going to do and it backed up only bank A. The other banks did not save. I am looking into why this happened. Be cautious about erasing your important samples.

On the OG 404, you can save bank A & B onto the memory card to access later. So when you reload the samples they reappear onto bank A & B. But I don't know if this is the same for the SX.

jsdtunes,

I haven't gotten around to erasing all my samples after I backed them up, but I do plan on it so I can have open pads to start making a couple new songs. Your case is very strange... You do have the SX, right? I'm not experienced enough to offer a reason... but it does make me hesitate to erase my samples if I can't get them all back in the future through my backup.

In the future, you should make sure you copy them all onto your computer or a multi-track recorder before deleting them. Too late now, I know... Let me know how it works out.
