yeah the vocals on alot of the tracks i skimmed through were like that, but imagine your typical vocals on some of these weird beats.

i wonder what he uses. I always wonder what gear these underground producers and producing on and it usually ends up being software. he uses alot of that sidechain compression. i havent messed with it yet.

that video is hot as shit. No one likes the voice but i like it alot. I love to hear tracks with irregular vocal tracks, not auto tune tho. FUCK AUTO TUNE! but i just listened to a few albums of his and his voice can turn you away but i seem to dig it alot cause im so involved in all the textures of the beat. maybe its an acquired taste.

its definitely a midi controller if you watch live vids youll realize that

ya, i saw a pic of him rockin a maschine. those things look nice and software has come a long way now a days. ive been sneaking into ableton more and more. did my first sidechain compression tonight actually. finally sat down and did it. its fucking amazing and the creative possibilities open up. sidechaning anything possible will add another layer to music that couldnt be reached. not just for drums but everything in the mixing process.

i like Baths...i have cerulean sitting around somewhere...it's not an 'every day' album, but when i'm in the mood for it, it's perfect. a tour with tobacco would have been awesome!

i'm actually looking for more stuff in the 'samples-with-vocals' kind of category, so if peeps have suggestions, bring it on. hm...maybe i should start another thread rather than jack this one...?

man o man let me tell you. im no expert so i might sound like a dumbass and there is another thread with way more info on it. But imagine your bassline rumbling while your kick drum is trying to bang. so both of them together is sounds shitty and muddy. You sidechain the kick and the bass, the kick being the "key input". so everytime the kick makes a sound, the bass turns itself down, then rises again when there is no kick. Sounds sort of like someone turning the fader up and down so the music goes in and out. ive always noticed it in daft punk just never knew what it was. But i did a little test and its cool as hell cause after you sidechain things you can adjust the attack and release on the compressor to tell your bassline how fast or slow to turn itself up and down, allowing room for the kick to bang.
You would probably just eq things making sure your kick was banging hard at 80hz and your bass sat beneath it at like 40 or 60hz. but then your bass might be so low that it wouldnt be there the way you wanted it to. SIDECHAIN LIKE A MOTHER FUCKER and eq lightly. im gonna fuck with it again today and see what else i can do with it. Its like an effect in itself.
Hope this explains it in lamens terms, just had some dunkin donuts coffee so i typed this in like 4.4secs FLAT!
peece
