Man, its about that time, i will finally get a MPC. ive been through a sp555 and i got a 808 and a 606 now. But ive always had my eye on an mpc. them things are classic.
Tust me, i know all the specs for both machines, ive been researching em and watchin vids for month. I know about the jj operating systems and all that jazz. I really want the inside scoop on both these machines.
Im leaning towards the 2000xl because it seems like just enough features to keep me invested instead of the 1000 and all that extra shit. but being about to resample your output is the shit. But i got a 808 that im keeping so i can go back and forth with those machines for effects and resampling.
the 606 is a piece of junk, feels like a kids toy and runs like one. (just my opinion) But to be one of the newest sp machines and to be so gay, roland is a pain in the ace! I rock on the 808 like lightning, sampling, resampling, effects, getting ideas out. the 555 resamples quicker than the 606( woops, im ramming again)
What i really like to know is which mpc has the quickest workflow. i know theres alot of button mashing on them both but which one can you just rock out on for days.
Let me know, im trying to bid on one in like the next 30 seconds!
or maybe a day or 2

personally, unless you want bigger pads i dont get why you would go for a 2k over the 1k. the menus really aren't a problem, once you know a machine you can fly through it. i know the 2k is seen as a classic ( and built like a tank), but really the 1k is a better machine, ofcourse forgetting about the first run of 1ks which were shit!! imo, don't want to get shouted at haha

2xl has slower processing, less functions ( comparing to jjos ), less capacity ( max 2gb cf plus 32mb ram ), no built-in fx & external outs cards.
but you will love it
get the xl :)

Hey man, I've owned 3 1k's (...) and finally got a 2k XL 'by accident'...

There really is no point in getting a 2k XL these days but make sure to try a 1k before buying... Everyone of mine had a fucked button here and there speaking for the 2k XL I can't complain at all... it is what it is and I'm satisfied with it. It's just a bad ass drummachine and sequencer; not a sampler...some say the old mpc's got a better sound and I definitly agree...

If you're trying to get a one-for-everything-machine I would say look out for a good 1k or maybe even a 2500... If you're a friend of the old shit you'll get a mad reliable machine with the 2K XL...
FX from the effect board are better too, plus you can use 2 reverbs and 2 multieffects at the same time (1k: 2 FX + 1 MasterFX). Onyl thing that's a bit of a pity is that you have no real mute groups but mute targeting which allows certain workarounds to get the same result...

I couldn't decide by myself right now, but I would stick with my 2k XL... don't ask me why... just a feeling. the zip's and floppys, somehow I'm trying to make a statement between all those 'apps'...

No matter which you pick, they are all good!

cool beans, im voting on a 1k as we speak. so if this son of a bitch stops outbiding me in the next 3 hours ill win. but im only going up to 450. i wish ebay was like a fight in a ring, cause then you could just rely on brute strength to win an item instead of bidding behind a computer. seeing who can hit buttons the fastest. knowing my luck everyone that wants a fucking 1k would be a viking and woop my tall ass.
i hear vikings make dope beats!

the mpc 1000 can resample (also the out as you said)
the 2000xl cannot resample anything.
notification: pay attention, in the mpc 2000xl the word "resampling" is on the manual, but means to "resample" an existing sample in a lower frequency; so the 2000xl can have -if wanted- a dirty lofi sound, the 1000 can't "resample" that way.

the 2000xl don't have fx
the 1000 have fx (but we know the akai fx: akai doesn't have an "history" in making fx as boss, roland, zoom, korg etc)

i think their sequencers are almost the same

1000=usb+cf, 2000xl=scsi (but you can install a cf receiver too, a bit complicated but possible)

1000=jjos (the 1000 became almost a pc with this: but then why using it instead of a real pc?) 2000xl=jjos (but limited)

1000 pads=ok 2000xl pads=very nice!!

1000 sound=cool 2000xl sound=iper cool!

Never funked with a 1000 before although I've heard good things.I went with the xl, its hella fun, perfect machine along side an sp. I don't really have a problem with things processing or loading, it takes a minute or so. Just enough time to crack a brew or scratch an itch. I'm not sure what the sampling time is on a 1000, but being restricted to the 20 seconds or so you can squeeze on a floppy has helped my work over the last month or so since ive been rocking it..if that makes any sense.

hey springwater,
I bought a 1k off of guitarcenter's used site for 350 usd. They will let you return it in 30 days if you need/want to. For me it is all about the portability. The 1k has a low profile and fits in a backpack. Just some thing you may want to consider. And the 1k has usb plug so you can make programs with a free software program, i for got the name, pad 187 i think, and load the patches into the mpc without sampling everything to pads. Just my 2...

well the xl has a filter which is alright, pretty basic, used to always dream that it was better, but i'm so used to the 404 now i think i could get a better bassline out of it (i've gotten to play on a xl minimally at a friends house), though the actually frequency sweep might be better on the xl, not sure, and also, can't you copy pads on the xl, like take a sound that your recorded in, and copy it too multiple pads, and then go about marking each one??

I kinda skimmed through the posts but, if nobady mentioned it you should get the pad replacements right away. The stock pads are like bangin your fingers on stone and they die fairly quick. you can get replacements(various colors if ya like) that are soft and rubbery just like the 2k xl.
