my roland ms-1 has an exploded capacitor or something, i opened it up and a little black thing is exploded but everything else looks good, would there be a way to jump this connection so I could use batteries with my sampler. I remember when i was a kid and i blew a fuse in my guitar amp and my dad just took the fuse out and connected the wires and it worked forever perfectly . hopefully it can be fixed like that ?

hi, from your description the component which burnt can be about anything(capacitor, resistor,...) and if that is the only problem well that's not a big deal, you just have to figure out what it was by comparing your hardware with the circuit's schematic (which can easily be found on the net) and then just buy the equivalent component and change it with the old one!!
i've fixed many, many, many guitar amps including tube amps and when it was just one or two or three or even more burnt components i was happy because at least the problem was visible and so easy to adjust hope this helps man, sorry for the bad english!

thanks dude, but i cant find the service manual or schematics online only ebay. I might have to send it away to get fixed , i guess ill try and fix my 4 track instead , it just has a broken power plug on the back.

yeah man you cant just bypass these kinda components because they do a job...

the reason you can bypass a fuse is because all it is is a wire that is designed to break if too much power goes thru it.. so you can replace it with a regular wire (although if too much power goes through then there is no protection for components further along)

a fuse is meant to be replaced, but when a capacitor is blown and looks exploded, it's not as pretty and could have taken some other components along with it (resistors, capacitors, or even worse chips or transistors).

on the other hand, you have nothing to lose if you change a cap that looks blown (except maybe time and nerves), although chances are something else is also messed up.

but...there are also some fuses that look like micro-components, the Korg Electribes have those inside (I've seen gut shots on some forums), if it's something like that you just replace it.
