you narrowed it down quite a bit. I dont think there are many portable turntables.

belt drive turntables actually give better audio quality. Direct drive is only really usefull for DJing. I would definately say to go with a Numark PT-01 I got it and I love. Its got a built in preamp with RCA and headphone outs and a built in speaker. Plus it has +/-10% pitch control and can run on batteries.

i always liked the vestax handytrax. the needle doesn't look interchangeable but i've seen it used sumwhere. looks like it's on sale too.

get the PT-01. that's what i'm getting. It's portable (can be battery powered), built in speakers, -/+ pitch of 10%, and it's cheap.

PT-01 + SP-404 + packs of AA batteries = days of traveling + diggin + beat making.

well if your an audiophile and are buying a hi end turntable then yes belt-drive's give a better sound quality.

however on budget tables when you are not even running the thing into a proper amp it doesn't matter.

also check the Technics SL-BD20 Turntable, it's not portable but a good listening table and the tone-arm returns when the record is finished playing, kind of handy.

and it's belt driven if any of that fancy stuff matters to you.

i have the exact same table except mine is a direct drive for some reason.
weird.
