Bpm of samples
Just got my sp404sx . Wicked piece of sh***t! I render like 30 loops with different lenght , and all in the same bpm . The bpm display shows me different bpms of nearly every sample ... But they play all in sync ...
( i tried to edit the bpm and put the right bpm manualy in the sp but then loop is sounding horrible ...
Has this some sort of effect for the performance ? Bpm looper? Audio ?
What is actually the porpouse of the bpm , when doesnot display propelly?

Re: Bpm of samples
I just ignore the bpm of the pads. I will use a tap tempo to find the real BPM and then make sequences around that. The BPM when you hit the pads just gives you a general idea of where it's at. You'll learn to just ignore it too

Yo ! Damn right ! Music = ear
Re: Bpm of samples
ok...for some reason, this bothers me a bit. I have not been impressed with the BPM display that defaults on samples...so, is it just because the algorithm for identifying is not up to par...or is it the transients of each sample are more art than science, and we just have to live with it?
I don't know, it's probably silly to worry about it, but I agree that if you are sampling from the same source, all with matching BPM's why wouldn't the SX identify the same BPM?

WTF
Re: Bpm of samples
It really doesn't matter... it could be that there is like 1 extra sample slice on the loop (1/44000th of a second)
how wrong is it, can you give an example of what the bpm is meant to be/what it is?

Re: Bpm of samples
just record the sample to the sequencer, then adjust the pattern tempo untill the loop fits nice.

Re: Bpm of samples
The bpm of a sample I think is determined only by how long it is, I don't Think it takes into account any transients, so a kick sample will be of a higher bpm than a cymbal crash sample, because the kick sample is shorter.

Just played the whole weekend with it... Everything worked in sync .. No problems with the samples...
Yeah thats right ... Sp 404 is an ugly kid !

Re: Bpm of samples
If you're using the 404 sequencer, the bpm readout of the samples means nothing. Sync is done by the sample starting off the sequencers recorded triggers. As long as the sample fits in the pattern bpm - it can be a little long or short and not be noticeable - in fact some error here can introduce some swing. Every time the sequencer triggers it, it's back in perfect sync.
The 404 does estimate the BPM from the length of the sample and an assumption of how many beats it takes, how accurate that is depends on how close the start is to the first transient and how close the end is to where the start of the next repeat should be. It assumes how many beats should be in a loop sample - it does not count the transients. If there's 32, it assumes 16 or 8 (or something like that!)

Just when you think things couldn't get any more exciting - they don't.

Re: Bpm of samples
usually when the sample is marked the bpm counter is accurate and reliable.

Re: Bpm of samples
if you set the bpm when you are about sample (not resample though, why roland?) it will render a pretty nice loop. though sometimes i can't get it the way I want it, so I'll do it by ear. either way, that first bpm readout seems on point. the more you mess with the sample by using mark or recording with a delay tail, etc etc... it will start to lie to you.

Yeah, definitaly the longer the sample the more inaccurate it will be. This is when I fine tune it with the mark button and a metronome.jbl wrote:if you set the bpm when you are about sample (not resample though, why roland?) it will render a pretty nice loop. though sometimes i can't get it the way I want it, so I'll do it by ear. either way, that first bpm readout seems on point. the more you mess with the sample by using mark or recording with a delay tail, etc etc... it will start to lie to you.
