Er' body that has some skill on an sp and is a big contributer to the site should be represented. But I'm willing to come cut throat on a battle if that's what people want. Other suggestions drop 'em by.

thats a sick idea but the mpc heads might not come thru when you need them to. I think they originally tried to make a mixtape 5 years ago and failed. Also that would mean less spots for us and them. But if cats here have faith in the mpcforums then its all good- I would like to go for a spot no matter what everyone wants to do.

I have thought about challenging them in the arena battles. world series steez- Set up a battle with same sample on both sites, winners of each site face eachother. But then again, I think its a pretty shitty idea too. I'm kinda hesitant to do anything involving those fuckin idiots.

edit-no offence 8)

@DR.Sample303: you got a point. Doesn't have to be a battle oc.

i think we should avoid the competitive elements for the 'tape, unless there's too many contributions to fit on a 80 minute disc. but if everyone contributes a beat i don't think that'd exceed 80 minutes

also, i think the beats we contribute should have had the SP used in their production, but not necessarily have to have been made entirely in one. the great thing about the SPs is that they integrate well with other gear and some people use this as a strength, others find greater benefits in keeping it all within the SP.

so some SP usage, but not necessarily 100% made with SP

i think this is a brilliant idea though, people will really bring their A-game 'cos we're gonna be side by side representing the SP series and this forum.

Hot Sauce - cheers for those links man, gonna start lurking at those sites :)

I'm down for not 100% sp beats, then I can really do work.

yeah, i guesse it doesnt have to be competitive as long as its only the sp site. 80 min. is plenty of time.

besides multitracking what else do you need besides the sp? Im not trying to critisize the way anyone works, just curious

Juxt - i got myself a modular system using MIDI
i use a padKontrol for velocity sensitive pads, that plugs into my Yamaha QY70 which I use as an external sequencer (you can copy and edit MIDI patterns much more comfortably than within the 404) which plugs into the 404 which is of course the engine and provides effects and samples.
then multitrack and Master Effects in Ableton Live if needed (i also record scratches etc once the beat is laid out in Ableton's multitrack)

it's all centered on the 404, but by using the QY and the padKontrol I can remedy some of the 404's shortcomings.

oh, i just meant (for me) i use the pc for some chops, pretty much ALL the time / pitch shifts and stuff, a little drummachine sometimes laid over. that's aw. just wanted make sure this is a little more free-flow than the battles - which obvs have their place too.

props on the idea tho, i think its a great idea.

I have a lot of tricks I'll use if I can edit sounds in Acid Pro and load the .wavs to work with after I have them they way I want. I just started using my sm card reader so my sp-303 world is a lot more capable now if I'm feeling like editing the way I originally learned.

im up for this battle.. don't really know what style i will go for but im wery up for it. i like to do a little wierd things with samples.. chopping them up and makeing them something else.. some of you probobly remember my beat in the battle area that ended up like being a carribian influesed 80's popbeat or something. im just picking up a qy70 to so my workflow will probobly be:

404, qy70, microkorg and some bongoloops from reason..
thats it.. and some samples of course.. an maybe my guitar

so explain how we schould do this!

if it was an SP-forums vs. MPC-forums kind of battle i think the whole thing would go down disastrously.

EVERYBODY here seems really cool and open-minded to everything, especially good music.
the guys over at mpc-forums are gear crazy, and have gotten feature crazy ever since JJ arrived on the scene. they are like demanding a new update every second day.
not everybody is like that but a lot of them are.

plus when it came down to voting, they would thrash this place cause they have way more members.

Word. As much as I like the idea of doing a vs. against them, it's probably a bad idea.
