thaks ella, always replying.

and the emx is technically not monophonic. it has 5 synth channels so it can play 5 different synth parts at the same time.

It was really cool. I was also really interested in the little tiny smoke puffs that were coming up on the screen every so often around the top of the sp and the side. What were they from lol? They looked so cool. I had to keep rubbing my eyes because I was like am I really seeing that?

Ella, it's a mono synth. You can not play chords on a single synth part. There is a "hack" that allows you to combine multi synths together to make a poly synth, but it's still not the same as what you're thinking of (this is done on the PC. More info is on Korg Forums - Electribe section). Also another work around to get a "fake" poly synth is to take a midi cable and route it from the "out" to the "in" on the emx. Set the midi channels properly and you can play one part that "controls" the other synth parts. My favorite electribe is still the Em1. I need to get my hands on one of those!
