didn't turn out to be much of a game.. so here's the modes for the samples. BTW, there is one additional lofi mode on the 202, but I didn't include it because it's clearly 202, it so crunchy.

A - SP_202_LoFi.wav
B - SP_303_HiFi.wav
C - SP_303_LoFi.wav
D - SP_202_HiFi.wav
E - SP_303_Long.wav
F - SP_404SX_LoFi.wav
G - SP_404SX_HiFi.wav
H - SP_202_Standard.wav

Sampling vinyl at the highest quality, the SX and 303 actually sounded pretty identical to my fugked ears. I was surprised. I did notice while recording these that the SX output is much hotter. I normalized all these samples so they would sit roughly at the same level, but the SX had the highest output level, followed by the 303, then the 202 (which has a pretty weak output level, and very sensitive input level). The 303's standard is kinda unique, cos it's lofi and rolls off highs but without all the bitcrusher ring. The SX's lofi sounds like it just runs it thru the bitcrusher effect, but doesn't low pass filter the highs... which is prob why it has a more high pitched ring than the others.

Anyways... that's the results.

Well I have to say that I can hardly hear any difference between those samples in hi-fi :) The lo-fi ones are more clear.

Thanks for posting the audio files and the solutions :)

Thanks for posting up this comparison. To someone like me who is still trying to figure out which sp to choose, this was an eyeopener.

lol just wanted to say dope shit after peeping the comparisons. I used to think that the difference in sound quality of the 404sx vs the 303 was major but like has been said seems like the 404sx & 303 hifi recording modes are very similar.

Dude the 303 and 404 both hi and lo sound almost identical. Now I have no idea why people swear by the 303's sound vs the 404s, because they're actually not that far off from one another. Maybe I have untrained ears, but really, can't tell much of any difference at all even after playing them over several times.

IT IS ABOUT TIME THIS HAPPENED!

There is talk of warmth and converters,
but the shootout/taste test is the only 'opinion' that truly matters.

thanks. GREAT STUFF! 8)

i started with a 303, and then switched to a 505.

I immediatly noticed in the hifi grades, and FX.

Then I got my 404 , and Hifi sounds like 505s lofi,

the 303 reverb sounds the best. the 505 isolator sounds weird.

and the 404 og doesnt sound anything like 303 or 505.

sorry for jumping around.
