i'm not sure if this is possible; can i slave my microkorg to the 404 even though the 404 only has midi in? if so how do i go about doing it?
if this is not possible what do you suggest as the best possible recording senario with the 404 and microkorg?
respect.

Re: slave microkorg to 404 via midi?
you can't, because there's no way for the 404 to send out midi information.
microkorg master, 404 slave.
microkorg master, 404 slave.
Samples.

yep, it would be nice but can't be done. You can either record in to the 404 or play the 404s pads with the korg's keys. You can combine the two in other ways though - like feed the 404s output through the microkorg line in and use the microkorgs effects/envelopes/filters on it.

Re: slave microkorg to 404 via midi?
yea that's true i could do that. i like that idea.
what do you think the best recording process would be with the microkorg, 404, and a m-audio fast track pro audio interface?
i've been using fl studio 8 for a while now but it doesn't matter to me what program i use. i just want to know what program is going to be the best method for recording beats with what i'm working with.

i don't know, i don't have an audio interface yet, and don't really use my computer other than for storing samples and tracked out beats, but i record them to the 303 and 404 back and forth and build tracks that way.
i'm sure others on here can tell you more about recording software though.
that said, try to find a way where you can play over a beat on the microkorg, but capture the sounds from the microkorg clean (no beat under it), and then you can reassemble things on the computer or chop them up on the sp later... i do that via a minidisc recorder inbetween the microkorg and the sp.
totally depends on how you're using the microkorg though, your setup may have to be different per song/thing you're trying, so just try different stuff.

Re: slave microkorg to 404 via midi?
i think i'm going to try and run the sp through the microkorg via midi and then run the microkorg through fl studio via midi. i'm hoping to be able to build tracks on there and record.
anyone have any other suggestions?

You can't "run the sp through the microkorg via midi".
Again, the SP doesn't have a midi output, only an input.
What you could do is running the midi out of the microkorg into your computer (FL studio) and the output to the midi in of the SP. That way you can use the korg as a midi keyboard and via FL, sequence the SP.

just to make sure i do this right from the start i go midi out from the microkorg into the midi in on the fast track pro and midi out from the fast track pro into the midi in on the sp. after doing this fl becomes the sequencer or the sp acts as the sequencer?
thanks for helping me out; i was hoping to hear from you.
