Hip Hop you SHOULD like but DON'T

Post by tedstryka »

Ok aside so I'll slip the usual suspects in hopes that this doesn't turn into a madlib dilla eminem jay z etc argument, but there's hip hop that either everyone loves and I'm not feelin, or I think I should feel, and I wonder why am I not feeling this?

My number one is (and I know I'm going to be murdered, so be it)

A tribe called quest
Now scenario and a hand full of others are pretty dope, but I've come to accept that I'm just not into them.

2. Murs. Again a couple dope songs, but I cannot figure out why I don't like this dude. Its a weird thing. I should like him, I mean I buy his album listen a few times and THINK I like it, then it ends up in the bottom of a drawer somewhere. I don't get it

3. Gza. Liquid swords is a great great album but I feel like anyone could've shined with that production. Another example of a dude whose work I continue to buy, but I don't think I dig. To me he always sounds like he's rapping with half a sandwich in his mouth.

there's a ton of "Hip-Hop" I don't like either. There's something for everyone.

I personally havent listened to Madlib in like....over 6 months. I feel like Id be wasting time trying to hear all his music rather than making my own. Don't get me wrong, I love his work...but I can't listen to it all as fast as it comes out. So I've been sleeping on the Medicine show albums on purpose.

Edit: I wish there was a way to "like" posts the way that facebook does, LOL.

Are you supposed to like aesop rock? jibber jabber lick the batter of acid dipped ginger snappers cant spit just pitter patter wishin i was mister mathers --thats my 30 second keystyle aesop impression. And I think I'm one of the only heads I know that think listening to Buckshot rhyme nowadays is close to torturous.I also used to think ill bill was incredible-at this point i think he's full of shit, regurgatating conspiracy theory books & movies, creating paranoia, and promoting a violent revolution that is in no way realistic. Same with immortal technique for that matter. Your revolution's a scam-probably at your crib now chewin through 2 hams-on your computer bloggin how they starvin in Sudan.....

I feel you on the whole Non-Phixion thing...it's more of a fantasy based style of rap. It's not really entertaining (musically) for me (at 26) when the content is all about conspiracy shit and crack-smoking.

That's actually an incredible aesop rock impression.

And cosign immortal tech. Him and zac dela rocha, tom morello and even on up to jello biafra have been making a pretty penny off selling "revolution" bullshit to naive kids for quite some time...happens in punk rock and hip hop and it's fucking stupid

Jedi Mind Tricks. Vinnie Paz is well respected in the hip hop community but his "mean guy" delivery is unbearable.

Mine is... you ready for this... ...THE ROOTS!

Hate the fact that they're all so musical and talented. That defeats the whole purpose to me.

I cant deny Brother Ali's talent.
Atmosphere I can do without even though I own most of their shit.

Blueprint is the one artist on Rhymesayers besides Ali that I think is dope, check out this(sasquatch) and tell me what you think:

Blueprint is a nice cat. He bought me a bunch of drinks and we swapped stories at a scribble jam tour a few years back. Was a good day cuz I got to kick it with Mr Dibbs on his tour bus too :) *That's what happens when you accidentally get to a show 3 hours early....

As for an artist I should like, but don't..... ya'll will hate me, but I'm gonna say DOOM. Luv his beats, but can't stand his rapping, ego or all his "villain" drama.
