Ill Mind/Skyzoo

Statik Selectah/Termanology

Just a few examples I'm thinking of right off the top..

So are these beatmaker/m.c. albums? Like i said in HIP HOP- the majority of great producers-and the greatest producers-are handeling virtually every aspect of the production of their tracks. By your definition, shit should actually be reversed-it's the dre's that should be considered the "beatmakers"-and the premiere's the producers. there is no distincion to be made really-- theres only a small ammount of producers or whatever you wanna call them using any outside input at all in the creation of their music, besides possibly a small ammount of help in the final mastering process. The making of a quincy jones album in the 70's is a completely different thing alltogether. And before anyone gets all peacenicky- this is a DISCUSSION, not an arguement.

I'm saying Hip Hop is the exception not the the rule. In Jazz, Rock, Pop, Country etc. the producer usually never touches an instrument. They control the creative direction, give creative ideas to both musicians and engineer. In many ways they are the bridge between engineer and musician. Only in hip hop and dance music is the creator of the music considered a producer, but I think this is because they are a one man band so to speak and usually handle lots of engineering duties wen recording vocal.

well if u look at "in house" "work for hire" type cats they really dont get the royalties that others get cuz they're session players which was big in the past and still works today...

no one is saying PR stole that beat... it just wasnt listed as a joint Grap did probably because of some label shit... i seriously doubt he would beef with his brother...

if u look at dre's aftermath website he has the ppl that he brings in for help listed on their own page... not just random thing that ppl would brush to the side...

i thin kthat early dre was all his... but once u get DRE money then sampling wont work

Lol if he sits in a comfy chair and listens/directs while someone else presses the buttons, I dunno, I think that is gangster. I could do that....

Me: "Stop...that part right there....yeah...chop...okay perfect" *sips on virgin margarita*

Intern type: "I was thinking maybe you could loop this part-"

Me: "Am I paying you to think? Just keep cutting that ish nucca"

Intern type: "Well, actually, you're not paying me so-"

Me: "Exactly... now play that piece again and come rub my feet"

Intern Type: "Man, my parents were right when they told me to stay in school"

LOL on second thought it sounds annoying as heck because sometimes it's hard to verbally direct what you are trying to achieve. I think it would be kind of frustrating and a major cramp in the work flow. Unless the person is on the same tips as you and just gets it. It's real lazy though if that is what he's doing lol.

Maybe Marley just didn't have enough knowledge on the technological shit at that point to completely use the sampler..I know it was basically his idea to chop individual drum sounds off of records instead of using drum machines. Unless he's exxaterating about that. Some things you learn about old school legends is like a kid finding out theres no santa clause.:(

Business is business and when business is good, I probably wouldn't mind as long as it wasn't actually stolen.

Some actually pay for other people's productions, even in the early days (basically long before sample clearing became an issue).

Another note-99% of your favorite "underground/indie" projects arent being created in a big studio with a team of people-it's the person/people making the music in a basement or bedroom just like us.

even great master painters had underlings to mix their colors and do the filling in bits
dont overlook people who are only "producers" not "composers" or "beat makers" , i say this cuz someone with a direct creative vision and the connections to make shit happen is awesome to have in the studio and can really push the best out of an artist that maybe wouldnt happen by itself. personally i think its kinda unfair to say they "take credit" for anything they didnt do, puff daddy or dre, all their hits have major sampled bits in them, like not even chopped and re-arranged , so who cares who "programed" the beat, in those cases for me its more about who found the sample and thought of how to use it.
to go against myself, one dude that sort of does make me mad when i found out how hard he relies on full phrase samples tho is timbaland because for me i think he does put out the air that he wrote the songs.
