i'm trying to play chops over a short, sequenced drum pattern, but the pads with the chops on them switch off at the point where the pattern loops. I've put the pads with chops on them into the sequencer before (and then deleted them again) and this seems to be the cause of the switching off, because when i build the same beat on a clear, fresh pattern, this doesn't happen.

Seems like deleting a sample from a pattern doesn't completely remove its traces, and causes this. Any way of getting around this? I tend to recycle patterns a lot so this thing keeps cropping up.

Are you maxing out the polyphony? Have played with the sample mode, try switching to loop or one shot and see how it plays back in the sequencer.

i don't think so, because all the other sample are gated one shot drums... and in fact, there is only a kick on the first beat.

if the sequencer is playing, the polyphony should be 8 voices (4 stereo samples) - the same as when just playing samples by hand?

fuk. it was the polyphony. sorry for wasting your time.

there was another couple of pads on another bank with the volume turned down that started playing at the first beat.

Wasn't a waste of time - it's a useful heads-up. Same kind of thing happens in some DAWs - if you don't delete or archive a track then the audio and FX in the track still have to be processed even if the track is muted.

Werd, stuff happens man. How you think I knew how to fix it?
Now that you know that, you can also see how you might use that to create random mutes in your pattern sequencer beats by maxing the polyphony with muted samples. Happy Reggae
