JZONE JZONE

Music for Tu Madre

LISTEN to it. his chopping sample skills are unique**** his lyrical comedy is like non other. huggy bear <--- / AL-shid + Jzone is a ridiculous comic rap trio.

jzone did a radio/podcast for a while under the name chief chinchilla. a-la quasimoto-esque voice changer.
shit was funny and had great NY old school rap joints.

What exactly is the ha ha eye roll about? It's a pretty serious thing when someone has to actually die to get the recognition they deserve. Guess for some that's something to laugh at, I don't know.
By the way j- zone is super ill, but when every "underground" hip hop head already knows how dope he is, he's not exactly slept on. He's well known for what he does-- as evidenced by this thread. I'm sure if he wanted to be well known on a commercial level he could be, but he's never chosen to go that route.

j zone is known, but when you never hear him mentioned...you hear a lot of dilla, madlib, doom, blockhead, blue sky black death, etc but i don't think i've heard anyone mention j zone when talking about the dopest producers. so yeah i agree he's known, but i don't think he gets the credit he deserves...

and it goes without saying by the way that soo many cats on the sp forums are criminally underrated...the beats i hear on these forums are better than %90 of what i hear "out there"... underground or mainstream...

I hear you- but when I say he's well known for what He does, I mean he's a dude that's always made basically completely sample based, crate digging shit, and made a good career out of it- which not a whole lot of late-post 90's producers on that type of shit can say. So in the overall small circle of heads that consume our kind of hip hop, he's been pretty successful. You can even go on undergroundhiphop.com and there's a whole radio station for just him and his productions. You are right that a lot of people don't consider him to be on the same level as a madlib or flying lotus for some reason. I think maybe a lot of backpacker/indie hiop hop kids are probably turned off by his lyrics, since he doesn't try to be all abstract & poetic/overly intellectual & shit.
But my comment was more aimed at the cat that dismissed the fact that Jay Dee didn't become recognized as one of the best producers ever till he died, but was quick to be like the fourth person to list off his favorite j- zone joints. The man never got to see his greatest success, at least in physical form, so in his lifetime, you could say he's the most underrated producer EVER.
I gotta add one more name I haven't seen mentioned--Ayatollah-- Dude has been amazing for years, and that's someone you NEVER hear about.
