Chopping manually = running a marathon
AutoChopping = running on a treadmill in a climate controlled gym for 10 minutes.

Yer only cheatin yourself!

nice metaphor sir! its exactly like that. with autochop you end up making those mpc beats that everyone is making on youtube. that same old 16 chop shit that anyone could do. grab an 4 barloop and chop it into 6 parts depending on the hits and then you got something.

Nah you dont have to use it like all the copy cats youtyube beat makers. I like transient detection so you can play out all the little elements in a different order. Trust me slicing is not cheating myself. Cheating myself would be not doing what it takes to make the beats in my head in the most efficient and fun way I can.

It's more than fun. It's genius! The interface is the best I've ever seen for an iOS app. Everything just works. When I touch the screen it does exactly what I want it to. Can't wait for the ipad native version.

dude nano studio is the truth. but im also feeling beatmaker. there both dope i wish theyd make one speciffically tuned for people who use mpcs/sp's. like that kind of feel like nano studio is so tuned towards a synth engine and beatmaker is specciaifaclly drums and shit. id like to see an autochop, better quantize and and easy import option besides doing your ip address thing. and a line in chord like the mic on the iphone headphones. i think that would be dope. sample just like a 404 if roland was smart theyd make an sp-I application type thing. like the sp series. would be so dope. :D

Samplelab looks ok. Its rad how you can just drop your chop onto the track/pad. Sucks that theres only 8 tracks though. Kind of has the same features as electrify, but better audio recording. Electrify has way more parameters to automate including the key start point automation.

I use Intua Beatmaker for sample editing and song sequencing, and NanoStudio for synths, multi-sampling, mute group pattern sequencing and master effects. Both are basically the meat of my production setup, and I'm in no way ashamed of that. It's crazy what technology can do these days.

Damn, Nanostudio looks dope as hell!

Ok, and here are my stupid questions (because I don´t want to waste 200 EUR on an IPod Touch):

Is the Ipod screen big enough for a comfortable workflow or do you constantly miss the buttons, pads and keys? (Just asking - I got no idea).

And is it also possible to record from your SP into the Ipod?

Yah, the ipod is fine to use nanostudio with. You'll be surprised at how easy it is to use. I would suggest buying a 2nd hand ipod touch. Mine was new in the box and I got it for $100 (craigslist). Also for recording into the ipod I have made a guide for that at the nanostudio forums.

This is an example of me recording from my ipod shuffle (just so it all fit in the camera frame). With the new nanostudio update you will no longer need 2 sets of headphones. In the photo I am using 2 sets so you can monitor the incoming sound, but this will be fixed in the update coming out next week.

Thanks homie, this really helped me a lot! Great tip with the cables!

Which ipod Generation did you get for 100$ and which generation would you recommend for nanostudio? It seems like the 1G Pods don´t support mic recording...!?!

You're correct, at least 1G iPod Touches have no line in.
