start expanding your sampling sources, like some old gaming systems, maybe a gameboy or nintendo, cassettes, blaxplotation films. for techniques Layering is on of the best ways to expand your beat potentials. start of with some drums and piano then add some chopped filtered horns over the top and chop up a bass solo, what ever combintation of instruments that sounds pleasing to your ears when you put them together. make fills like every 8bars and every 8bars add a different type of high hat sequence. i also like subtle changes throughout the song it can take away for the repetitivness of some loops if you add some variation over the top. most of all, good beats are like food if you want your food to be tasty then cook it with love and time rather than just stick it in the microwave and call it good. i like the saying "quality over quanity." hopefully this can help you out.
