HAHAHAHAHA!!! oh damn! That is hilarious! One of my bosses is actually like a little Eddie Van Halen...he loves his guitar solos.

Im feeling you on that Jazz guitar comment. I think Jazz is one of the only genres that has room to breathe.

I was reading up on the definition of hipsters, lol. Wow, those are funny! I can see why people would see me as a hipster, but really...Ive always been like this, just an arrogant natural-born-Artist. Ever since I discovered my talents I kinda been walking around with my nose up in the air. But really though--I'm not that bad. I just get bored at work and had to write about what I was thinking. Guitar Center has scenesters...the kind that never buy anything and want to jam out the loudest on the most expensive equipment.

yr prob is that you work in a guitar store.

no guitarist with any sense or taste ever spends more than 15 seconds in a guitar store. it is where fun and art go to fucking die.

here's a question: those hosebags who come in and play halen, zep, etc. for hours on end...any of them ever buy a guitar?

i'd suspect no. they're there to show off their 'chops'.

yeah, being there is what caused the initial spark for me to post something about the annoyance I was going through.

The people who play in store are there to show off, yes. But some of the people are there to buy AND play for hours.

I havent witnessed any musician that came in there other than the Guitarist for Bret Michaels, Mike ...blah. He's a regular, but pretty much a cool dude. He doesnt go there to annoy...he plays in a closed off room.

that's what dudes do when they just wanna play guitar.

i've played guitar for a billion years, and i HAAAAATE most everyone at guitar stores.

you were right in yr first post when you said "is it that most people are just hacks?"

the answer, sadly: yes.

man, working in a guitar store must be excruciating. i would pro'lly never wanna touch guitar again!

HAHAHAHAHA!!!

Still you gotta start somewhere, even if that means thinking Spinal Tap was a documentary. At least Wayne's World had the 'No Stairway To Heaven' sign, have you tried suggesting that to your boss?

Isn't being a hipster/scenester/whatever really about finding a bit of solidarity with like minded folks though? That's something everyone who's ever lived is guilty of. It goes both ways too, by being totally non-conformist its quite easy to fall into the same traps as a turbo-scenester by focusing too hard on aesthetics.

Its just that people are inherently subjective & view taste as something that ought to be objective. Don't just judge people by their mistakes, but by what they get right too.

Hahahahahahhaha!!! thinking Spinaltap is a real documentary? That's too funny...but yes you need to start somewhere. I did start with guitar, but I was more experimental with it and it led me to other stuff, like sampling. I used to think it would be cooler to be in my own band because working with other people (at that age, 14 or so) was nearly impossible. Nobody wanted to take anything serious at 14.

but anyway, back to the subject. Hipsters, scenesters, Hip Hoppers, rockers, metal heads, dykes, jocks, geeks, and douche bags...I know it takes all kinds to make the world go round. I know that I should just shut up and be nice instead of pointing out faults. I just had to say something because the word should always get out there to be more like yourself --and less like someone who wants to fit in by changing who they really are. I bet most of the teenagers and young adults that come in to annoy/buy/whatever are in a phase that they will grow out of in a couple years. But some of the employees I work with think they are rockstars, which is probably worse than the customers who just want to show off their chops.

When people look at me sometimes they try to publicly discuss what they think I might be into...trying to pigeon-hole me. It's entertaining most of the time because they cant tell shit by just looking at me! lol

I like being secret about what Im about. It keeps things interesting.

Edit: goddamn Im long winded.

this subject is sounding real high schoolish.

And idk about anywhere else. but most "hipsters" in my city are moving the city forward in creativity. Because quite frankly, you can be as secretive as you want in person, online, anywhere else. but if you dont expand your thoughts then no one is going to follow you. and to bring about creativity and become a creative entity you have to have support other creative beings. which i feel "hipsters" "scenesters" "hip hoppers" whatever, are doing. Bringing a change in the way things are viewed. because the "hipsters" are the ones throwing the partys that other "hipster" kids go to, and are eating at the restaurants other "hipster" people want to eat at. so its basically a community inside of a community. which i see as more of a postive than a negative. And way more of a individual choice than a "follow the leader" type attitude.

And here in detroit, most hipsters arent listening to van halen and or going to a guitar shop to show off van halen riffs.

It's not high schoolish...its what people are doing, outside of highschool. I was just wondeing why people need to use labels. And why do people who are against labels get labeled" hipsters".

Im not wrong for wanting to be kept a secret. Theres nothing wrong with avoiding getting a label. When youre surrounded by people who are all doing the same thing it gets stale. How can anyone want to be a part of something that has gone stale? There's nothing wrong with doing shit on your own and doing it for yourself. Nothing wrong with not wanting a community of clones.

Edit: Hipsters listen to van halen?! Thats news to me...

I've been waiting for an opportunity to post this video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVmmYMwFj1I

I do have a lot in common with hipsters in terms of taste lol, but I dunno. I don't really care either way. People are going to do what they want to do, and if I like something, I'm going to like it whether 2 or 200 people like it also (I know this is easier said than done  ). Those guys coming into GC sound ultra annoying though lol and I can understand your frustration.

hahaha seen that video. Thanks man

It wouldn't be so bad at the music store if they didn't let anyone play anything.
