hey guys, im new to this forum so firstly 'Hi'
i have been DJ-ing out in bars and clubs for 10 years now in UK, Sydney and Sweden.
I use to own a sp-202 before i left it in a taxi before one of my gigs... nice
the main function for the 202 was that i could sample popular aceppallas and loop them over house music and change the tempo accordingly using the pitch knob. the only problem was that i didnt have enough banks to save more samples.
will the 404sx be good for me ? 1. can i adjust the tempo (ie. make is go faster or slower) of one shot samples and loops in realtime with an assigned knob ? and 2. is it easy to access? (because on my 202 there was an actual pitch button) 3. can i control the tempo/pitch with one knob and say a delay with the other ? i generally use the pioneer mixer effects but it would still be good to use a few of the 404sx effects too
i hope to hear from you soon, thanks josh
Real time Tempo / Pitch on a 404 sx... HELP !!

Nope, you can't pitch like you did on the 202. The 404 has a "wanna be" timestretching system that sounds horrible when you move the tempo too much. Sadly, most of us use either the computer to pitch or buy another sampler that has the option (or just learn how to do without).

Slightly offtopic, but the 404SX is a really good DJ FX machine.
Just route any line source through it, tap in the tempo of the track and off you go with the FX.
Here's a track played through it like that, all of the stutter/retrigger/repeat/speedup and distorted filter FX are the 404SX:

In line with this, is there a cheap sampler out there that has this pitch function? I hate re-recording into the computer. I really dont care what other effects it might have. The SP-202 + memory card really arent worth it to me to pay for this ability.formal wrote:Nope, you can't pitch like you did on the 202. Any ideas?
