Nas-- "THE WORLD IS YOURS"--If you go back and listen to this joint what is now (gulp!) 16-17 years ago, the lyrics are still incredible and killing most M.C's today. And to think He was between 18-20 years old when he wrote it, the shit's pretty mind blowing.So far ahead of it's time lyrically-- Not to mention Pete Rock's beat is easily in the top 10 of all time.

Mos Def-- "Mathematics"-- He took a simple concept to an amazing level, plus mad wordplay and metaphores. Not to mention a BANGER produced by Premiere.

Ras Kass-- "Nature of the Threat".At the time (about '95?) this took political/historical rhymes to a place it hadn't been yet. The best part about this song (it covers many topics and time periods) is the way Ras breaks down the true origins of christianity. If you havent heard this--you need to. Ras Kass is one of the most slept on of all time.

Common-- "6th Sense"-- A lot of heads were hating on him before this came out, even after. But this is some of his dopest writing and delivery ever-- all encompassing verses that go from the social, political,spiritual, and industry bullshit, to some just straight B-Boy shit in 3 16's. And preems beat is personally probably my favorite off all time, which is saying A LOT. His chops and the way he structured it are SO ill. And he always kills it with the cuts, but the scratch chorus on this joint is one of his best.

But yea,no way I could name just one. If some of you younger heads haven't heard any of these, take a little time to google them.

And outside of hip-hop-- Nirvana's "All Apologies"-- There has never been a song writer in rock music like Kurt Cobain, either before or after his death. The way he combined anger and sadness with humor and sarcasm in the same breath was genius. He also came with some of the dopest rock melodies of all time like it wasn't shit.

On the soul side of things-- I can't think of the title, but it's a joint off of Roberta Flack's debut "First Take". She was one of the first soul artists to really get on some serious social commentary-- This album touches on topics that could have easily got her killed in a lot of places across the country. Besides the courage it took to take such a stand in the midst of the civil rights movement(1968-69), the music on that album is just beautiful all the way through.

Also, that Ras Kass track "Right where I left off" not because of any meaning behind it, just a good concept and well written.

Also, on that type of good concept, well written ish, I'ma have to say The Arsonists - Millionaire. I reckon i listened to that about 20 times on repeat when i first heard it.
