Just picked up a sp-404 the other day. im trying to import my WAV samples into this thing. all files are 16-bit/44.1. i initialized the memory to clear everything. i have a 1gig CF card and have all my samples in the root folder in the correct place. everything goes smooth until i try to assign a sample to a pad (internal and CF memory banks) and the screen keeps flashing "FuL" meaning there isnt enough memory to store the sample i believe. it doesnt make sense because i just erased everything and initialized the damn thing so i dont know why it wouldnt fit. i check my samples and their only like 80kb - 150kb big so they are small enough. any ideas or tips fellas. any help is appreciated. thanks in advance.

Did you name the samples properly?, 'cause the sp needs the samples to have specific names that correspond to the pads they'll load to. Check out Roland's site and download the .pdf file for the 404 manual, it tells you what to name them. Welcome to the forum, more Bay love is always fresh. Yee

whats good mayn! i actually work in Oakland at Kaiser on W.Macarthur. thanks for spreading that bay love, yadada

N-E-wayz ummm yeah i named the files specifically like the manual said. i wanted to put them in bank C so i started naming them accordingly like C_01.WAV, C_02.WAV etc. shit still didnt work. im really freakin stumped right now. i tried everything. is it possible my samples are too short? im trying to import a bunch of kik drums and snares and they are small short files. i dont think this is the case but i dont know. thanks for the help

Samples have to be pretty tiny to not load, a full kick, hi-hat, or snare should all be long enough. I guess I would try a different CF card, I know for the 303 you need a certain smart media card something like 64mb 3.3v, maybe the 404 needs a certain type of CF card. Funny that you work at Kaiser, I live near MacArthur and High street.

supposedly they are making some soft for us that will solve many of these issues. i can't wait.
so u named your files by pad but your trying to assign to that pad. that could be the problem. if u named by pad u would just go from like c and it will all into place. or the card could be problamatic. i have loaded really small files though so i don't think that's it.

hey jbl

what do you use to play your wav's. i just talked to tech support dude at roland US and they said if you use windows media player on any files your trying to import it adds bullshit header files that corrupt the file for importing. im gonna try to convert my files to aiff thru itunes and see what happens. hope this crap works. thanks for the input

That's gotta be it 'cause .wma have a thing called DRM which is digital rights management and basically means that the file is designed to have limited playback abilities, so you can only use them with windows media player. I think apple does the same thing with files you buy on itunes. I get my files in the raw if you smell what I'm talkin' 'bout.

Winamp has been one of the best ever since it came out. I like the classic version a lot, something about a running theme of simplicity in my life that makes me very happy and more agile so to speak.

hallelujah Holla bacK!!!!

It worked. i Guess dude at roland was right. he was talking about how he gets calls daily about windows media files not working/importing correctly into roland machines. not just the Sp's but even the MV's, MC's, Tritons and other machines. so just for future reference for you other guys out there that import your samples in your SP, Dont use Windows Media Player! Itunes Worked great for me so if you have it, use it. I converted my files into AIFF and they went in perfectly. thanks again to Dr. sample and JBL. now i can get back to work....Anybody wanna hear my Soul beats?
