Ditch the MPC for 2 SPs?

Post by Idiom »

Whats up everybody! I havent posted here before because I'm new on this forum. Recently my MPC1000 Blk is acting up. The effects never worked, and now the pads 8-16 are all glitching. I have had the MPC since 2007. I have had it long enough to get used to using it despite its handicaps. I installed the JJOS2 as well. Although it might be a regular sort of thing that comes with maintaining... I have always wondered if I should just ditch the MPC for something better? Is there better?

I've had my SP-303 since 2004 and have never had any of the problems I have now with the MPC. The 303 and the MPC are two totally different beasts...but they both need each other. One is supposed to be the industry standard... and the other borderlines obsolete, yet not worthy of selling. Is there any way I can get an SP that could replace the void of the MPC? Keep in mind that I don't have a computer of my own and that I need something to multi-track.

Prediction, "You will miss the mpc." Did you try opening the mpc up and replacing the tape on the sensor. I just did that to a pad on my 1k and now it works 100%. Just keep the 303 and 1k combo. possibly try making a track on the sp and chop the pattern on the 1k and flip your own beat, se how you like working that way. lots of guys on here rock a sp/mpc combo. Oh, and welcome to the board! Everyone on here is chill. dont be afraid to ask questions.

--Thanks, I never have I opened it up. I know, shame. Does it sound like it's just a pad problem?

The other problem is the effects...its not that huge a problem since I use the SP's effects. But now that the pads are screwing up my MPC, production has come to a complete stop. I can't get the MPC to record samples from the SP and play them back with normal pad commands. The MPC can capture it...but no sound when I touch any of the pads. It's as if I discover newer problems as I try to understand the ones Ive already got! eeK!

no sp has regular pitch  , if you work with this feature forget it with any of those machines (the sp202 and the sp505 got however "some sort" of pitch); if you just chop/fx/resample samples those are nice machines for you; the mpc got however a better sequencer, but the sp606/505/555 got useful sequencers (not as nice as the mpc but...).

I really want another SP...but the only downsides for the SPs is that you cant multitrack. That is a HUGE!!!...problem. But I know about how the SPs are a work-around-the-handicaps-sort-of-deal. As for natural drum feeling goes, I can always get an MPD pad for cheap I guess since I work at Guitar Center and I get a massive discount through GAINcentral.com Starting to get confused about the equipment I know so much about....:/

I forgot to add* I did open the MPC up this morning and dusted it out, removed the pads and put them back in...still, same problem. I need new pads or new sensors. Im a little reluctant about talking about my MPC SO MUCH being that this is not the MPC Forums, but we are all gear heads and I'm looking for some other people's ideas.

Hold [STOP] on the MPC while you turn it on, switch to the other OS, and then do it again, switching back to jjos2... worked for me, i had the same problem.

...Tried that, but no results. Is there another button that I need to hold at the same time as the [STOP] button? I can try switching OS back and forth I suppose. I'm running jjOS 3.08...maybe JJOS 3.08 has glitches? Ill search the MPC forums a little more...see if that's the culprit. It has been a long while since I've updated my OS.

I reset the MPC to default OS. The screen contrast needs to be adjust every single time I turn it back on. In default OS pads 9-16 STILL play samples randomly. Same problem. I tried to install JJOS version 3.12 but apparently version 3.08 never left the MPC...and that's what showed up when I turned it back on. SO, I reset back to default...and I'm back at readjusting the contrast every time I turn it on AND the pads 9-16 are still fucked. I'm ready to fly to japan and rape everybody who works for AKAI. I just found out Numark was behind the MPCk1...now I understand why everyone is modding their MPC...Numark makes junk! F***in L!

I'm very disappointed in the MPC forums...no activity there. The only suggestion are basically instructions on how to MOD your MPC1000.

Is there anyone who can help? AKAI pisses me off now...stuck with this thing and I cant get ANY beats done.

Like I said in my original post...Ditch the MPC? Get a SP555 or 404sx or something better???

well after a few censorious conversations with the folks on MPC forums I can try to reconfigure my MPC1000 system. But Im definitely gonna sell it after its working the way I was used to. Anyone wanna buy an mpc1000? lol

I'm gonna look into the SP series some more before I make my decision. Any suggestions are appriciated.
