one shots?

Post by springwater »

i know it may sound like a dum question but id like to officially know what a one shot is. ive always assumed i know what it is but when i hear people talking about sampling one shots then sampling bars i get confused. i thought a one shot was basically a chop. or is it a open sample with just a hit, or could it be a few hits and why is it considered a one shot. when i think of dj premier i totally know what a one shot it but when i hear it used in a sentence im like, wha???

a one shot is like a kick or snare or bass note or any note for that fact.

i think it actually means when you hit the sample it plays to the end and if you hit it again it it starts over again i could be wrong tho '

yeah one shot just means you hit it when you want it to sound, and it plays once.
so like, a single drum hit, or a word, or a piano chord, or somethin like that.

sometimes people will call multiple notes a one-shot sample still if theyre talkin about the fact that when you hit it it just plays once thru, but most of the time one-shot = one single hit/note/stab/word/etc.

as opposed to a loop, which plays more than once, or like a melody or a phrase or something..

It's dumb ;)
