What is Resampling?

Yeah, I never knew what it really was. What is it, and how do you do it?

Is just means to overdub which is a process of recording sounds onto other sounds. Normally they way Les Paul invented it, you would record a drum track then grab your guitar and play a backing rhythm, then a melody etc.
On the SP's you have effects to add which can completely make new sounds.
If you peep my battle track for 71, I made all those sounds other than the drums from a single microlooped guitar note and adding effects over it with resample.

Might I also recommend our Open Challenge 12 - There were no samples allowed, only sound sources were to be the SP effects themselves, you had to build all sounds through resampling.

Resampling is the joy of my life!!

On almost a daily basis I go down to my studio, sample some 4-8 bar drum/bass parts on my Kaossilator Pro, sample them with variations in a 16 bar loop on my KP3, add some more Kaossilator Pro sounds, resample that to one pad, add more sounds, then sample a full 32 bar performance into my SP404SX, and then take several of these long performance loops on the SP404SX and resample them chained together as a complete full-length recording...none of which requires a computer, and most of which can be done on stage...all courtesy of a lot of resampling and cross sampling between units...the end result is suprisingly bright and rich and clear, with performance nuances that could be tedious if not impossible on software sequencers.

On stage I have no: ipods, laptops, Serato, Traktor, Abelton Live...none of that...my shit looks like an alarm clock from Battlestar Gallactica, but sounds like C3P0 getting a colonoscopy.

Actually, this sound I'm doing now is hella gay. I used to do strictly dark shit, but I started to thing the bubblebath type of lops were more hilarious. Maybe I'll go back to the dark shit.

related question if anyone knows - i've been wondering why the polyphony on the sx is lower during resampling... 2 stereo samples at most? is this the same as on the original 404?

thanks, i could find that mention in the SX manual but not in the 404 one, maybe i overlooked it... anyway i was wondering if there is a difference and what the technical reason is - writing new data at the same time as playing back samples could be a valid reason why the polyphony is halved, sounds credible.

anyway, what happens to me is i try to resample a loop with drums, but i end up cutting off the loop. wish there was a way to say: this sample needs to loop till the end, sort of giving it polyphony priority. but hey.
