Question about turntables

Post by Daniel James »

Easy Gents,

I have no knowledge of turntables what so ever and have a bit of a query.

I been looking around the net for one and noticed a couple that have caught my eye. Question is, do i need a mixer to connect the turntable to the SP, or do i need a preamp?

Ive had a look round the forum already but cant seem to find anything.

Im under the impression it will be a simple answer and im just a retard, but just wanted to check before i splash out the dosh.

Peace

Most turntables need a pre-amp, and not only for recording to your sampler, but also for listening on your stereo and anything else.

A few turntables do have a line output, for example the Numark TTX, but this is in the specifications and applies to a very small numbers of turntables.

Otherwise, you might need a dj mixer, but some older stereos will also have a pre-amp, so you can plug your turntable in the phono input and go out the headphone jack then into your sampler.
