What a steal!

You know that you can easily put your own sounds on it using a standard eprom burner? Turn it into an 808 :)

Hehe, yeah, a crunchy 8-bit digital 808!

Got a lead on a burner, actually. Interesting is that longer samples, like the crash, span several eproms. Curious to see what will happen if I switch their sequences around. Need to find some chips.

Bellsauce, those are standard NMOS EPROMS, I can spot a 2764 one on the pictures.
27Cxxx (CMOS type) are still widely available and are a good, reliable replacement. 27C64 (64 kilobit) are hard to find, but you can just as well use 27C128 (128kbit) instead and write only the first half.
Or write two different on the two halves of it, and switch the highest address line manually between 0 and 5V for selection of two sounds :)
Or, or.... or... the possiblities are practically endless. While you're at it, you can ROM-Bend it too, just get the datasheet of that chip and wildly shortcut random data/address pins on it for whacky sounds :)

Oh, and if you put in the four ride chips in the wrong order, it'll just play the parts in the wrong order. Nothing magical will happen, sorry :)

Bad times my friend. I got the 202 recommended by a mate and had been keeping my eye out for a couple of months, the ones i saw were going between 70 and 110 quid, most of them buy it now. Just lucky i suppose :D

I was yakking about how much I liked Joemeek stuff in another thread, and I recently got a great deal on a new SixQ (preamp/compressor/EQ) from a local retailer.

It is a lot of fun to record with! Each stage has it's own on/off so you can create the proper chain for whatever source material you are recording.

The compressor is like a pit-bull. It's tricky to dial in the right ratio, but when you get it down it has a nice "pump". I would sooner use it on Rap vocals than regular singing. Then I make a note not to compress again it too much during mixdown.

How I use it with my SP-606: This is a one channel unit, however, it has digital outputs, which are naturally stereo. They give you an extra line input that is POST pre, but PRE comp & EQ.
So.. if anyone doesn't know the 606 analog ins & outs are noisy- so when I sample into the 606 I use DIGITAL. I have the digital out of the Meek going into the 606, so I can grab stereo (without use of comp & EQ) clean, and if I grab mono (which I mostly do on the SP) I can use the comp & EQ to sweeten the sound a bit while (cleanly) sampling.

This thing gets a lot of use lately, and the experimenting is half the fun.

Also- they give you Recall sheets as PDF- it got me back into an old-school recording mode.
