hello everyone. long time lurker first time poster. prior to this I had been making all tracks in ableton and a little bit of reason but I decided that I liked the hardware approach to making music more than software, especially when it comes to sampling. got a couple questions for yall. I have some breaks already loaded up in my pc that I had planned on loading into the sp-404 and chopping up into pads to lay down drums. however my SD card has not yet arrived in the mail. I was wondering if possible, how I could go about straight up sampling off my computer's sound card and what cables I would need. i have a mixer, not sure if that will help my problem at all but just thought i'd throw that in there. thanks to anyone that's willing to help.

another quick question for ya or whoever. if you got a drum break how would you go about chopping it up. would most people isolate the hits in an external slicer or would you just do it on the 404? sorry if these questions have been asked before i tried my best to search the forum.

Sample the break to three pads, then use the mark button to chop the first to a kick drum, the second to a hi-hat, and third to a snare. Truncate the three pads to remove the unused portion of each sample and your ready to play some drums.

Or just have the break on one pad and then just mark an isolated hit and then resample it to a different pad. Then unmark the break and just keep rsampling till you have a kit.

Thats what I do. And dang Dr.S.. I would never have guessed you chop your drums into just 2 parts. Sounds like you do more. I usually chop at least 8 parts...lol...I feel like im doin all that work for nothin now :)

Yeah, for a single break I usually just chop a kick, hi-hat, snare. After I sequence that I just go into my sound library and find other drum hits to layer with it. I like this method 'cause it's mad quick, I also have a few other tricks up the sleeve but the game is to be sold not told and if you listen you'll figure it out.
