Just got Ableton to utilize with the 404...

abletons cool for making tracks, but recording audio into it seems like a real process. esp w/o an audio interface/ i record audio in other programs than move it to ableton if i have to.

Ableton is the easiest daw to set up. Read my reply,it's the first one in this thread. Answer the questions and I might be able to help you. Anybody dissing the technology because they can't figure it out needs to quit. Ableton is sick, just read the manual or actually reply to the post that are trying to be helpful, so we can get you hooked up.

you could pretty easily just record the SP->mic jack on something like audacity and then use the recordings as samples in ableton that you can play with a midi controller.

@Bridge: i did listen to all your guys advice and it was just a repeat of what i've already done, which is why i came on here to ask in the first place. i eventually got it working though but it just lags like a motherfucker through the mic jack, which is why i installed the asio4all driver and hooked that up, but i don't think it's letting me play the 404 through the mic jack when the asiodriver is on. i don't believe i was never dissing ableton, just frustrated with it as i'm so used to Reason. ableton is the shit as far as DAWs go...

@meager: i'm starting to realize that i can just record through audicity and use the samples like that, but i can just stick to using Reason if i'm going to do that...

btw, how come everytime i download audicity the "effects" section is never available? every single effect is listed on there but it won't let you click any of them...so i can't fuck with the pitch, use EQ, normalize, limit, or anything except record into the program...

That lag could be because of you buffer settings or your interface may have some sort of latency compensation knob that mixes between monitoring the inputs(no latency) and the outputs(latency). Yo I think someone else said just fuck ableton or something, wasn't saying you were dissing it. I was just asking what kind of computer/interface/version of Live/etc. you have as it's important to know these things to help you out.

i thought i had mentioned it Ableton Live 7. i just want to get Reason5 and my problems will be solved now haha. i'm just so used to Reason after 3 years of using it...

i've just started using Ableton Live 8 and my mind is blown, the software is so powerful, its truly limitless. So far my SP's have been used as

a live instruments just recording as an audio track

as a sampler to take cuts and record them into ableton for further manipulation and simpler sequencing

as an effects unit for the final mix using wah, bpm looper etc on the finished track.



anyway, just a plug for ableton i guess, reason is dead to me.

Highlight a section of the audio (or all of it) you want to apply the fx to. It will not work otherwise.

@ meager prophit, that is basically what i want to use to for as well... but it just hasn't worked out thus far. i probably gotta wait until i get a better soundcard and interface for my laptop...
