you can plug a turntable into the sp without an amp.

just crank up the drive on the filter. it will give you a real grimey ass sound. you might want to ground the turntable. then you can export the samples into a computer and normalise them. bouncing into protools juices them up to. I usually use a real amp for the turntable. but this works too.

question to those who own a microsampler..

so i know that it auto time-stretches when you change the the pattern bpm...do you have the option to have it not time-stretch while speeding up or slowing down the bpm like and mpc or sp?

this is the only thing holding me back from buying one..

Weird...no pitch or mod wheel? I really need a regular kb midi controller because the Akai MPK25 is a little too skinny on keys. I was thinking this Korg might work, but with no pitch or mod wheel, I lose a lot of performance capabilities.

Since I have the 404SX, I can live without another sampler...

Any recs on a decent kb controller for Logic?

yes. if you mean the sample against the pattern. actually, it's more like you have the option of bpm matching the sample to the current bpm if you want, but it takes extra polyphony.

i broke down and copped one today off ebay. i ended up buying it new for $375 shipped (since used ones are basically the same price). i was torn between an mpc (500, 1000, 2000(xl)) and the microsampler, but i decided that the music scene is so flooded with mpc style/sounding beats and i wanted to shy away from such a structured workflow and get a newer sampler that's on some completely other ish (besides sp's). i've owned two mpc's before and they're dope but it's hard not get stuck in that mpc sound. it will be interesting to see how it will works with my 505 and 303. i'd rather have three budget samplers that do different things than say an mp3000.

the microsampler came a few days ago. it's taken a while to get used to it, but man i can see myself doing anything with this thing. the learning curve is similar to a 404 or 303. the undo feature on the sequencer is nice coming from the sp (as well as actual panning lol). it packs a lot of features without slowing you down with a hundred sub-menus to scroll through(the edit key commands help with this). there are a few little tricks you gotta learn like copying a pattern (you gotta write the pattern you want to copy then change to new pattern and load it.) it seems a lot like the 404, but just with more features (besides swing and seperate tracks). anyways, i don't want to sound like i'm bragging or anything, if you got the money it's a great creative tool to use along side an sp. one dope thing you can do is control a sound module with it while sampling into it, or even better you can sequence a sound module using microsampler's sequencer, then sample the module while the microkorg is sequencing. i imagine this works with an sp also. anyway this isn't a korg forum, but just thought i'd comment on it.

on the microsampler tip.... been checking it out at the local music shop... price is steep. The piece looks like some cyborg T-1000 shit. niceee features though. how are the effects ??? minus the pitch shifting???

the filter is very nice to me. chorus is ok. the looper is not a looper at all to me and very whack.
but you can use this as a looper, just like the kp3. you record a blank in the sequencer then just record as it plays.

it has a 100 dollar rebate now which pisses me off as i payed full price, whatever...

it's not as straight forward as many sp's but a likely progression if you're not into tracks and whatnot with a mpc. however, i still love my sp's. my number one complaint is they don't play well together as ms is set at 48khz.

48khz to 44.1 is no noticeable difference unless your working with some serious mastering outfit(studio). and if you are converting to MP3 well... its shitty compression, hence making the 48khz minuscule and it really shouldn't affect bouncing around to the 404

check that new LBJ tape in the 'your music' section it's a lot of microsampler+sp

i just mean loading waves from one to the other. there seems to be a difference to my ear when loading a 48 as 44.1. actually the the ms will automatically convert 44.1 to 48 with the software. but what i do is make my loops on the ms and then i go through voxengo (i also have audacity and reaper but i don't know how to convert on these)to make a 44.1 file and then load to 404 then convert to roland file. not really a big deal though.

of course if i don't need to use audacity but want a perfect loop i can always just set the bpm on the 404 and record directly. i wish they were the same rate or not fixed, though. minor qualm. both machines rock.

whats wrong with sampling straight from the turntable? (404) its how ive always done it but i like grimey sounding ish i guess.

i really want this thing can anyone throw out examples of ways to use it with the 404? ive never used anything else to make beats so ive never fully understood using 2 samplers together.

also what makes the sequencer not that good?

whats the poly?

can i play the same sample at different pitches(on different keys) at the same time? and make like chords of notes typa ish?
