but i have not a clue how to get it working. i want to connect the 404 via the mic input, but then ableton doesn't even have the mic input as an option for an audio input source. and then when i try to connect my m-audio axiom to it, it won't even pick up the USB input source and just has one option for the input/output sources... can anybody help me? i've tried posting in other boards, but it only gets 50 views and 0 replies.

Hi dude, what kind of computer do you have? You might need to install some drivers or something if you are on PC. I use mac and just plug everything in and it works. Also no offense or anything, but I hope you bought Live. Using cracked software might work funny. Also, do you have any other software? Does you axiom and interface work properly with other stuff?

Are you talking about a 404sx plugged into computer by USB?
Cos I dont think it acts as an audio interface in that mode.

If you don't have it connected to the computer and youre just trying to send sound from live to the SP.. of course the comp can't see the 404's inputs!

You've gotta join the mic input on the SP to one of the computer's outputs if you want to get audio between them. Also you should use the line level input not the mic input because A) its stereo, and B) the computer outputs at line level, not mic level.

With the axiom thing again, could you explain exactly what you have plugged into where

This for real?

Considering it is...

Ableton = DAW. It's a software multitrack recorder/sequencer/editor that works with both AUDIO and MIDI.

Axiom = MIDI Controller.

SP-404(SX) = Sampler, has a MIDI IN connector, outputs AUDIO.

What's missing in your post is any reference to an Audio Interface, I assume you're using a regular soundcard and that's ok, far from ideal or good, but works kinda.

So, Axiom connected via USB acts as a MIDI controller for Ableton, MIDI out goes to SP-404 (you can trigger stuff with the Axiom or through sequenced stuff on Ableton or with both). That's the MIDI part and you can go and check the forum and the manuals for details.

The Audio bit goes like this: SP-404 line out (L and R) goes into soundcard/audio interface line in, which is then enabled in Ableton/through the OS. Then again, reading the manuals doesn't hurt and everyone should do this before trying anything else.

I still think you're just trolling and this is a waste of time, hope I'm wrong and it helps.

okay, i guess nobody understands what the hell i'm trying to do. i don't have an audio interface or obviously i wouldn't be asking this question.

i ended up getting everything working as far as hooking up the MIDI controller to Ableton. but now i just want to have the RCA line outs from the 404 to connect into the mic input (RCA to 3.5mm jack adapter) so that i can record audio from the 404 directly INTO Ableton's sequencer and then chop/arrange accordingly...does anybody do this?

now that you've explained what you're actually trying to do...

don't use the mic input, use the line input.

you should just be able to select it in the audio section of live's settings.
Then you create an audio track with the input selected and the rec/arm button on

Ok mezZo, like cartesia said you should use the Line Input but if your soundcard only has a Mic Input and nothing else then there's no other way really. Then again, the process of selecting the Mic/Line Input should be very straight foward (once again, like cartesia said).

Your posts have been kinda confusing from the start, so it's a bit hard to help (or at least for me it is - and don't get me wrong, I'm not that great at explaining things either).

Anyway, hope you can get things working there.

the only trouble is that Ableton won't allow me to select any Mic Input as the audio source...i'm not sure why this would be...

OH, ABLETONS WEIRD MAN, I STRAYED AWAY FROM IT, MIGHT BE BACK THO CAUSE ITS A BEAST. if ableton doesnt recognize your computers sound inputs then maybe its your computer. maybe download the ASIO4FORALL driver and install it. It lowers your latency and makes your software run faster and it might help you with the input problem. otherwise, ableton should just notice that you have a soundcard and put em on a glass automatically. maybe you might wanna learn ableton a little first. it took me a day to find out how to set up an audio track and record on it. may even have to get the manual from the website cause the little tutorial that comes with it sucks ass.
hope it helps

okay. well i guess i'm just going to be sticking to Reason then. i thought it would be pretty straight forward to just plug my 404 into the mic input and then record into the sequencer, but i guess not. and it fucking lags a lot when running through the mic in...fuck!

its always one dude with a "mouth all mighty". I would say screw the software, just not like that arse-hole. If your looking for a way to record your tracks to a software program, get a multitrack recording program alot more simpler than ableton. some piece of shit freeware that will just record and make mp3's. worry about the rest later. Computers are the enemy. Stay away from them.
