need help uploading firmware to sp808

hey, i've got the firmware, and the smfplayer, and i bought this basic midi-usb adaptor from ebay http://cgi.ebay.com.au/220644727416

but it won't update. i get the unit saying waiting for midi. and my computer sends the .mid files to the sp808. and the pad indicator light on the sp808 flashs. but nothing else happens, just keeps saying waiting for midi. in the manual it also mentions about having a sequencer??? don't know what that is...

the usb to midi cable is 16 channels.. does that matter? any help would be great.

alternativly i was hoping to copy the .mid files from my computers zip drive to disk to try get it to read that, but the update via disk option doesn;t look for .mid files like the midi port update... any help please

Have you connected the midi correctly? cause some cable mean with 'out' out and another means connect TO out meaning its actually in, so maybe swap 1 time and try again! and also, does your usb-midi adapter has a switch on it to swwitch to midi thru? make sure if it is that you set it not to thru.
