Need to get some feedback from all you SP users so i can submit it to our engineers in Japan.

Who would like to see a software wave converter / sample bank builder like the SP-555 for the legendary SP-404 ?

I need positive feedback and real world application.

Lets see if we can make something happen. Thanks !

That would be fantastic. The ability to save the card as is so you can save the state of your sampler and clear your card to start over. This would be nice on the 555 also :)

oh, also the ability to convert previous SP (202,303,404,505,555,606,808) samples...maybe even other samplers like akai or ensoniq to work in the sampler. That would be SICK !

Well i think you can save the card as a " Back-up " so you can have multiple back-ups that would consist of several banks of different samples. IE: back-up #1 could be 10 banks hip hop samples then backup #2 could be 10 banks of House electro and movie clip samles and so forth.

mike, this would be great.

i realize some people have differing opinions about editing screens versus the 'mark' button on the 404 (555, etc.).

however, i think software that would allow you to interface with the 404's wavs in a real way would be a great benefit. you can still 'mark' on the box, obviously, but if you wanted to use a screen to cut and swap? you have to output, edit, re-record, etc. a 404-specific software that allows you to do this would rule.

obviously, file management, uploading and downloading of files, storage of patterns, etc., would be wonderful, but why not maximize ALL the potential of the boxes?

in the same way that some of the SP units were aimed at DJs, or were (maybe) designed for hip hop use, the users have found creative ways to tap the box, you know? people trick-out the toolz.

having software that exploits ALL the possibilities will only bring more love from the community.

by community, uh, i mean us. heh heh.

Mike, are you saying that Roland US officially supports sampling movie clips? I've always thought that was illegal, but if you say it's OK, I'm all about it! Thanks, man!

haha, I'm just kidding :D

I only have an SP 202, but I'll be getting a 404 at some point, and I agree with the others in this thread, that seems like a great idea.

Sweet merciful crap! Something like this would make my life a *whole lot* easier!

There's no way you could include the FX processing, is there? Or maybe so it could operate with VST plug-ins? No more resampling just to get reverb and some distortion!

No need to include modeling of the sp404 effects - BUT if it were able to be a VST which would support pattern and sample playback from the CF card I would be in heaven. Think about it - no need to go through another A/D conversion just to get your pattern/song recorded in the computer!

Eh, as long as we're converting them to/from wavs, we can do it in our own DAWs... I just prefer the sound of some of the SP's FX.

Leave the code open. The hackers will take care of any crazy ideas we come up with.

Make it compatible with the 303 as well, a feature that makes it easy to duplicate patterns would be nice too.

Bring it on! I'm a drummer using this thing as a trigger destination for my band, as well as for live edits of the samples and "messing around" between songs. So most of my sample work is pre baked using various bits of software, and managing the patchlist and mappings to the Alesis Trigger I/O manually using Google Spreadsheets is time consuming, but gets the job done. At least my samples don't change much until new songs arrive.

This is exactly why I started this other thread: viewtopic.php?t=925

I did seach the forums on 404 software but must have missed this...

any-hoo, Roland , Please do this, and please do it rather than releasing a whole new piece of hardware and forcing us to upgrade. If you do this it will extend the life of the 404. (sure USB connectivity would have been nice but I can live with card juggling)
