Gear Mods

Post by Dj_just_jeff »

What's up guys, can you put photos of gear you have modified and explain what you have done to each piece of gear, even if it is just stickers or styleflip. This is my 404 with some stickers and a replaced the original knobs with low profile knobs so it is was easier to throw in and out of backpacks.

i painted my sp black after being obsessed looking for places that sell black faceplate. i like black simply because i didnt like the original silver shiny surface. and its not like im gonna sell my sp anyway. this is def a keeper.

for the record i am not the first person to paint their sp. it's been done here, most notably drewdank (correct me if im wrong) is the first person to do so. just giving credit to where its due.

you gotta prime it so the paint sticks. once you do it there's no goin back after that. i used flat black , paint it even then wait to dry then paint another layer.

that knob mod is a great idea. i used to wrap my 404 with a shirt then tied it with rubber bands to secure the knobs whenever i put it in my backpack, too much work.

I got them at radio shack. Had to do minimal grinding so they would not rub in there seats.

noted. though priming might help too, i read there are special metal primers which make sure that the metal is not affected by the chemicals in the paint.

so now my plan is to prime it with metal primer, coat it in acrylic and then paint it in oil color and get a little artistic on it. after that, seal it w/ sealer spray to make sure it sticks. gotta try it on another piece of metal first, i think. I'll post up pics when done, may be a couple more weeks cause i have too much other stuff to do now.

maybe i should cop a replacement face plate to go crazy on, and save one for backup :D if anyone knows an address for that let me know, cause i can't find any using google.
