Is a Korg Microsampler good for a beginner?

I really have been wanting to get into samplers for a long time, but I have never used one before. A Microsampler looks pretty good. On top of being nasty-looking in a good way, it has a keyboard which I would prefer to pads, because I play the piano. It seems to be a pretty well respected machine. Is it good for beginners? What else would you recommend?

theres only a few cats here that own that machine... im pretty sure Ill-Green has one and i think another does... search the music section for his lp he just put out for some dope sounds and lyrics... thats if that is what was used

Lord Beatjitzu gave it a personal endorsement, if you like some deadly hip hop beats his opinion is not to be taken lightly. Plus the microsampler looks to have a great way to sample incoming audio to any key by holding it down for how ever long you want of that sound. Hope that made sense, other than that if I was starting out I would look into Korg microsampler, sp-404, or zoom sampletrak. Hope to see what you can make. Peace

No, I own a Roland MS-1, don't know why Korg chose that name, but let it be.

I've seen it in action, its a dope piece for anybody really. Great for pros for its innovative features like sampling and chopping at the same time without stopping. And great for beginners for its ease of use.

If they had a 16 pad version, I'll be all over it.

I would suggest a macbook with liv and an MPD for a beginner, may as well learn on the standard shit without any technology holding you back. I would suggest a 404 on the side before a microsampler. In the end its way of working is pretty archaic, which can be good to flex the mind of an experience producer. Most people will find working with a computer second nature these days though.

I have a macbook, but what is "liv"? I assume MPD stands for Music Player Daemon but how does that program work?

I believe he is referring to Ableton Live and MPD is a midi drum pad control device manufactured by Akai.
