What exactly is MIDI SYNC?

Midi sync lets your music machines keep in time with one another. There are usually 16 midi channels on each machine. You can set your machines to the same channel and they will keep in sync with one another. I would like to know more about this too. Can anyone give me simple instructions to MIDI time sync the KP3 to the Kaossilator pro? I really just want the BPM clocks to stay with each other, but I got confused on my first try and yanked out the MIDI.

Hey man, I think it will work - you want to have one of them set to internal clock and one set to external clock sync. (say the KOPro is on internal and the KP3 is on external)

You will need to check wheter or not it actually outputs timing messages.. I THINK it does, but not all devices like that do. Also check that you dont have any of the midi/sysex filters on (for both boxes) because that might filter out the timing messages.

Now plug a midi cable from the KOPro's midi OUT to the KP3's midi IN.

Then change the tempo setting on the KOPro and see if the KP3 follows the changes.. if it does, then it worked!

- If you get a slight drift it helps to know the 'align' function (shift + tap tempo - restarts all loops at once when you push it - mainly used if individual loops are out of sync.)

- You might need to set each box to a different midi channel - otherwise the pad one might trigger the pad control on the other depending on what CC's they use.

- Make sure you have the latest operating system version installed on each box (check korg website).. because with the KP3 the original OS version was very unstable/had bad sync even internally.
