Well Reason 5 is in beta still. I had a beta code for record 1.5/reason 5 and tried it out and thought there were some great enhancements. I didn't really make anything in it because it's in demo mode so that means that you can save but can't open those files. I'm not a power reason user anyway. I use subtractor for my bass and I occasionally use Dr. Rex when I'm too lazy to chop in my sp303 and just want to resequence breaks I cut up in Recycle. The new reason/record has some great stuff in it though, like a great sounding timestretch directly on clips in the timeline as well as a new pitch module. Honestly though I'm so much faster on my sp303's and love the pitch on those things so I probably won't use them so much. Ditto for the new sampling features. It's definitely the best in the box sampling solution (meaning actually sampling audio) that I know if and it's incredibly versatile between all of reasons samplers but it's still easier and more fun to sample into my sp303's. I can't give up reason though mainly because of Subtractor and Scream. Those two are essential to me.
All that said, if I were to start over again on a budget for the sample based hip hop I do, it would be a computer and the new record/reason for sure.
