hold button problems

I was having some problems with the hold button when switching banks. I hit a looped sampled set to gate and press the hold button. I turn on an effect on that held sample and I switch to another bank. I hit a new ungated sample and the hold button at the same time, many times the hold button does not turn off the first sample until I hit it another time. Sometimes it works better when I turn on the new sample on the downbeat and turn off the hold button on the upbeat. Turning off the hold button seams to work better when I don't switch banks. I'm trying to figure out if this is a bug or is it me. Anyone else have this problem on the sp-404sx?
