good computer applications?

I just recently figured out how to use Audacity a bit. It's pretty useful.
Don't know any other than that...

i use fruity loops producer edition. the name i think fools people into not taking it seriously cause its an amazing instrument, mixer, tracker,sequencer, and sampler all i one. the plugins it has are musically great, and the mixer is setup different than other mixers in other programs. you can use any plugins with it and host or be hosted with any rewire program. if you buy it online, you get free updates everytime they release a new version! this allows your purchase to keep up with all the changing need and growth in DAW'S. so every version that comes out, you can upgrade to. no other program does that im sure. but on a side note, if you would like to use 1 daw and only 1 for every musical need you might have, look into fl studio cause it smokes the rest of those programs in terms of features, compatibility, and workflow. even with out an audio interface you can set your mixer up to record from your computers soundcard ins with "asio 4 all" that comes with it.

Garage band if you have a mac, if you are using PC, go with Cool Edit or Cubase.

Audacity, good and free for editing samples.

Logic Express for mac, you can get most of the features of Logic Pro for $150, versus Logic Pro which is $500.

Kinda surprised nobody's mentioned the Maschine yet... But then again, Live & a decent pad controller can do much the same thing.

Going back to FlyLo, pretty sure he uses the Maschine as the laptop part of his live rig. Remember seeing an ad/quote for it where he was dissing the MPC majorly, saying he wanted to chuck out his MPCs after trying that beats beast.

Ableton is good, and its absolutely sick if you got mad midi controllers.

I use Logic though, which is what I would reccomend if you wanna be recording and mixing shit aswell.

There's Ardour if you're running linux. Works with macs maybe even for windows but im not so sure.

been using repaer on a macbook for 6months now, replaced the 8track. i used to be 100% anti- computers but...... i love my mac. reaper is really easy to use and understand, simple layout.
