Need Help with SP606 and Midi PLEASE

Post by Twitch »

Hey everyone,

For some reason I can't get the Midi to install on teh drivers of the Sp606.. I can't even get the P606 software to recongize it.. I already un-install and re-install the drivers several times.. my Kinetic 2 doesn't recognize it, neither does Sonar 6.. However it does recognize it as an interface but no Midi.. What's the deal?

So, if I understand you right, you are saying that when you install the drivers, you get an error message concerning midi?

If the P606 software wont work with it there's a major issue somewhere.

Tell us what happens when you install the drivers - be specific.

Its says a CreatePIn failed, the P606 will close now.. I only get this message with the P606.. With Kinetic 2, Sonar 6, Live 6, Reason 3, I get no message.. I can't select Midi for the Sp606 at all, for any of these software hosts..

Hmmm, sounds bad... that message would mean something; but I haven't come across this before, so I'm no help on this one I'm afraid.

Mike Acosta (Roland) has joined the boards though, so maybe if you PM him you'll get help.

Failing that, try asking at Roland Clan forums, or contacting Roland Customer service by phone. Sounds like a serious problem to me; if you purchased the unit new you may be able to swap it for another unit (that works!).

Please post back to let us know what happened - others may have this problem in the future (hopefully not, but yeah...).

:?: Vendor?

Yes, there's two CDs with the 606. Install the drivers first and then the Software. Make sure the 606 is plugged into the PC and turned on throughout the whole process (it may have to be in 'ext' mode too, I can't remember..).

Ohh ok - no need to go diving into menus just yet.

Go back and uninstall anything that you have installed so far (that has to do with your 606).

Turn on the SP-606 and touch nothing! Plug the USB cable into your PC. There's no need to go into the menu becuase that's for transferring files, not using the unit with software.

Install the Drivers Disk.

Turn on EXT control.

Install The P606 software.

Run the software and it should work. Did for me anyway - and the fact that nobody else has yet reported a problem that's even slightly similar to yours tells me there must be something wrong with your unit.

Did it come with the manual and did you follow the instructions in there to the letter? The reason I asked is because the procedure above is what I remember, but I bought my 606 in early 2005, so it was quite a while ago!!

Sorry I couldn't be more help...as I said it's years since I last set it up, and I don't remember having any problems whatsoever. really sounds like there's something wrong to me. Let us know how you get on with Roland..

Hang on, I just thought of something - you're not using Vista are you? If so there's newer drivers that you need to get...

Hey,

My question would be - I have managed to connect SP 606's midi out to my PC, and after some tries, the PC managed to recognise the midi notes - now only one question left for me, that is, how can I change the midi note? Currently it's playing 16 notes one-by-one - can I assign individual notes for each pad? (I hope so), and if so, how ? (so eg C3 to Pad 1, D5 to Pad 2, etc)

I bought my SP606 as 'used', so I haven't got the CDs, only the sampler and the manual book. If any of you could help, I'd really appreciate.

Hey man, you will need to get hold of those CDs to get the most out of your 606... you can get them from Roland's site I think (the drivers at least), or failing that, email Roland Support to get steered in the right direction.

You can get specific notes to play specific pads, but I'll have to check the manual to see how it's done (I just use the defualts myself). 8)
