There was a time I was afraid to clip the master...

...but at the end I chosed to get louder.

Does it bang on your speakers? I know I can still squash more... let's see.

Blaxploitation Sample VS Classic Break

Chopped and flipped on the MPC1K, effected on the SP303, beefed on the BlackMB.

Well... I crosschecked the results and the answer is: NO!

It indeed SUCKED BIGTIME.

I looked a bit into the thing and that's what I came out with:

I would really appreciate to have new feedback from you guys...

Cheers!

my honest opininon... drums nice but the samples sound kinda thin.. like in my mind i can hear those horns coming in with a lil bass line under them.. like making them sound fuller... if you are able to beef those samples up then this would bang @ 12 out of 10!

Thanks ellaguru! As soon as I would have 5 minutes free our tune it's the next I'd dedicate some time to.

Niq names, thanks a lot for your opinion: I indeed kinda lowered/filtered the horn sample to leave more room to the rest of the mix.

It's not definitive yet, and I'll surely try to mess around more with levels/eq.

I'm just afraid that increasing low-end of those horns will fill up the mix with sub-bass. This would lower the perceived loudness, so the balance is kinda hard!

yeah i understand that... i run into the same problems... what i have been doing lately is killing any sub bass levels below 30 hz because no one cept die hard car audio nuts will be able to reproduce levels that deep... it kinda helps with increasing the headroom of you higher freqs (i think thats how i should say it)

but it is a labor of love when it comes to mixing... if i think of any other info that i use ill send it your way because i do run into the same issues, lol peace

Thanks Niq.

The HPF at 30 is a good dirty trick, I'm demoing Tracks3 now and I'll look into that shit in order to achieve the desired overall levels...

but as you may probably infer I'm not multitracking: this leaves the level/eq/mix thing ITB (MPC1000).

I already lowered the subbass (from the bass layer and the horns) there, maybe it's just not enough:-)

In any case thanks a lot, bro.

PEACE

Hey, i think the beat sounds fine sonically. I just think the beat itself is a little bland. You clearly can program a good beat, I would just be more selective with my samples. The horn is kind of boring, but I wouldn't say it's thin.....

Thanks for listening Bridge...

I should say that I indeed like the sample though (you may say it's pretty obvious since I picked it!) but I feel what you mean: it could variate/build it up a little more. In any case I'd keep this structure in order to add something ABOVE the track to complete it: either a vocal/rap track or a lively played instrument. Will update it soon.

Niq, thanks for your wishes :-)
