changing fx on pads without restarting sample

I'd like to change which pad i'm using the FX on without restarting the sample. Is this possible? It seems like it isn't, but I was hoping it might be. I plan on triggering the pads via my computer with long notes to sustain them, but if I touch one of the pads to change which sample the fx processor is effecting it will restart right? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Press and hold the "remain" button and select the pads you want to apply the FX to. This will not retrigger the sounds.
