Anybody here here in the forum work in live sound, Record lables, radio stations, studios, TV stations ? if so how did you start ?? I know for these kinds of jobs you don't start at the top. I just finished my audio tech associates and I need some ideas in how to start off.

As far as I've seen all that kinda stuff is about knowing the right people and being there at the right time.. Also about avoiding being in the wrong place with the wrong people. My mate did an audio tech thing and the only job he got (setting up a new club and then running sound) ended up not getting him paid a single cent (after all the work was done of course)

check volunteer postings from cultural groups in your city. Something like this --> http://www.workinculture.ca/apps/index. ... b.showJobs

Take that experience (if it's available) and build from there

yeah i i were you id go to different concerts @ big places and ask to sit in while they do their job...

most ppl love to talk about good bad experiences to someone thats looking to do what they are doing... to me this'll help u rom ending up on the wrong side of ish and itll help you connect with diff cats just based on you being a "cool guy"...

never be afraid to linger after the show or ask if they need help once in a while... dont volunteer for daily service but if u see an opening go for it and do one step above your best...

YES! I work for CBC radio as a broadcast technician. I operate the mixing board for live daily shows and trigger themes/clips and music. I have a degree in audio engineering, without that I would be at a grocery store still. I got super lucky with this job, you need connections and luck in this biz.

You have a degree in audio engineering and you trigger radio sounds and operate a mixer? Is that really any less boring than working in a grocery store?
