My first tables were the old stanton str8-80. I learned to scratch on them. You can get them cheap now because stanton re-designed their line a few years back. They have pitch lock so you can speed the record up and the singers dont sound like chipmunks. They also have reverse, 33/45/78,direct drive, and i think they are +/- 12% you could aslo find the str8-100's they are a step above the 80's. Hope this helps.

I think there are some direct drive stantons, the srt8-60's? I think. There is a belt drive stanton, dont know what that is possibly 50? You know that im talking about the old stantons, the silver/grey ones. Not the new black ones. Im serious that the 80's are pretty dope. I now have technic 1200 mk5's and still miss the key lock that the stantons have, also the stanton srt8-80's have a wider range of pitch shifting, i think it is 12-18% i think my techs are only 8 or 10%. I tore the hell out of mine, taking them to friends houses, djing parties, lots of transporting them with no cases, they never failed. They are also grounded in the housing if that matters to ya. They came with removable hinged dustcovers
Ebay has them for less than 100 bucks. I payed $325 for each of mine new. Make sure you are getting some cartridge and headshell included so you can platy the records.
Show us a photo of wahtever you get.

+1 on the STR8-100s. I got a pair off craigslist with a mixer and 2crates of records for $200 (kept the decks and upgraded the mixer to vestax 07pro). I've put these decks thru hell and back. They take a lickin and keep on tickin. (I bought them for the sole purpose of scratching)

Other things to point out on the STR8-100, they have SPDIF (digital out). They also have a built in preamp so you don't need to hook up a mixer. As DJ just Jeff pointed out it's nice also not having to worry about grounding the decks. The pitch control on these decks is crazy!

If had money to buy "new" decks I'd snag up some tech1200s or the pdx2000s. They are both rock solid turntables.

For mk2's? I would say 250 is a FAIR price. 1200's are nice but for starting you could do the same thing with the stantons. Also, like i have said, the stantons have nice toys onboard.

There are a few on ebay. It is totally up to you man. One thing about technics is that they always have high prices second hand and are in demand, so it is easy to sell one for what you bought it for. That black sparkly 1200 has some toys on it, SL-1210M5G but that is $$$$$$$$
