Peace ppl....I got a brand new joint here using half vinyl/half cassette tape samples. Any tips or feedback would be appreciated. I've been rocking the 404 for almost 6 months, so there is still much learn.

hey irie - i'm gonna give you my honest feedback. there's stuff i like, stuff i don't.

i really dig yr sample selection, yr gritty tone, and i fink yr drums have great compression (or at least, they jump out like good drums should). i also really like yr arrangements - yr cuts to weird horn stabs mid bar where other stuff disappears. solid - that's a good musical sense, right there. so that stuff's all good and i would check out yr later stuff based on that.

on the negative tip - for me - shit's too loose. don't get me wrong, i LOVE loose beats. but i feel like i can hear where yr sequences aren't lining up. stuff slips too much for me to hear anything except how it doesn't line up (if that makes sense). like, i'm distracted by it.

so i don't fink you've gotta quantize shit to the floor - no need for that - and yr stuff probably needs to be natural. for me, it's just about the head nod and i think these are a little too lumpy for me to really feel it.

i hope you see what i'm sayin'. still cool stuff.

This is definitely what I need to hear.

I know exactly what ur talkin bout. Funny thing is that I feel the same way when hearing it too now. It was just a decision to try something different since I at least quantize my hats to keep myself on beat most of the time now.

I appreciate ur honesty and willingness to help me better my steez. Glad you could find something positive and negative rather than all negative.
