My vote goes to Zom B. Of all of the other entries, I think that he does the best job digging deep and capturing the "soul" of the track. Props, man...much respect.

I think ZomB had the best 30-45 seconds- but I felt that lodger had the best complete entry. So, I voted for lodger .... to me, the sample gets flipped across genres but still sounds right.

Another vote for zomB, felt like the most dynamic of the bunch. Like a good beat should it gets the hook in quick & gets out waring itself out. Lodger's had some good moments too & props for gis_sweden's tempo rise & bass.

Turns out it was a little harder to make those samples work than they seemed on the surface, as good a singer as LaVette may be I just wanted her to shut up & let the musicians take the light for more than a bar or two... But that's missing the point of these challenges.

for me it was between Lodger and JakDaRabid. then Jak got it cuz i liked the chops and how the progression worked, even though the loops were a tad late and stuttered the flow a lil. lodger got some dope ass drums though and the melody (using pitched, short gated loops?). all were interesting

Yep- the trick that i developed to do this was to take a tonal sample (any chord, etc) and set the pad to gate. if you go into resample and very rapidly hit the button, you can make a tonal sound that is pretty obviously artificially sustained, but sounds cool. do this for multiple tones in your track and you can play it like a synth/keyboard.
