Been a bit "un-inspired" lately. Haven't been able to construct any rhythms for a while and i'm begining to get concerned. If music is what I live for, why am I having trouble creating anything? I've sat down and pulled some sounds together but just can't seem to put anything down. This is a straight out bummer for me and I wanted to share..
My question to the forum members is: Have you ever gone through this before, and if so, how'd you get through it?

if you've got a 404, throw some batteries in it and load it up with random shit, and head out somewhere where you have no choice but to stay there and do beats... i like to get on grooveshark.com and record random stuff to a cassette w/o listening, then put it in my walkman and you've got a tape full of surprises, might come up w something.
oh and someone said here once, "if you don't smoke weed, try it, and if you smoke alot, try not doing it for a lil bit."

Re: Beat Block :(
I've been going thru some ups and downs with my beatmaking lately mostly due to my lack of budget and lack of herbs. To get out of the slump I've just been tryin to hang with other musicians and bring the 404 with me. When the time hits and I'm motivated I get some beats done. Like others have said, try to find some random sample material that you wouldn't hit up otherwise. You never know what will strike your fancy.
One word of advice..... DO NOT BUY MORE GEAR TO FILL THE VOID. This will just create a vortex of beatmaking anxiety.

I haven't been herbalizing for awhile. Been waiting to get paid... although, i like gettin blazed before i make a beat, i don't want to rely on it just to make one.. feel me. But I do get your point.. heheh.

i've been hitting up all of my old musician friends but none of them have time to get down. So i've been going for dolo for a minute. It's definitely helpful to have creative minds around to spark some creativity.

Re: Beat Block :(
been thru it, still go thru it..., it happens... if i can't get anything going, i won't force myself to create but then again i get caught up a lot trying to shape the sound of drums to often resulting in nothing being put together.
but usually i just listen to music for inspiration or move my set-up somewhere else, like by a window etc.
but don't fret, it's normal...

that was me haha, but try listening to some new types of music, and sampling new types of music. what i do when i cant come up with something original and completely mine, is basically try and imitate a beat i like, eg find a similar piano sample use similar drums and shit you can get your mojo back or atleast just make some decent music in the meantime.
