Question Of Saving Backup Data

the manual tells me i can save up to 12 backups. please tell me if this theroy may be correct...

- lets say i fill all 120 samples in all 10 banks along with all patterns.

- now i want to program another 120 samples in 10 banks along with patterns.

- i backup all 120 samples patterns in all 10 banks that i did previously?

- i program another "full load" of samples and patterns?

will it be possible to switch between the two or more "backups" i created on the same card? this way i'm not limited to 120 samples or 10 banks on my sp404sx and i'm not having to switch cards during a show?

Yes, basically.

It may take too much time to do it if you have long samples.

I am wondering the same question as well except whenever I do a backup it only actually backs up the samples on banks A and B for some reason and the samples from banks C-J are not backed up in any fashion. I think I may be doing something wrong????

Lanny, you have the old SP-404, in only backs up its internal memory (banks A and B), the other banks are on the card.

does anybody keep say a bunch of different drums stored in their backup memory and switch them out to use at different times? ive always thought about doing this but it seemed like something could go wrong ... anyone doin it?

dman5000, that's exactly what the backup function is made for. Don't be afraid of a standard feature going wrong It can't go wrong more than anything else. (like the whole machine suddenly dying on you, your roof dropping on it, your room catching fire)
Oh, but loading a backup will take a while, depends on the total size of all samples (+patterns, but disregard those because they're very small in size).
If you only have a bunch of short drum samples, it will only take a few seconds. Naturally, the 404SX is much faster at that than the old one, bcuz it uses SDHC cards. Get the fastest card you can obtain! Saves a second or two on each and every operation accessing the card. Like sampling, resampling, copy/delete/exchange samples, backup save and load.

decent! ill have to give it a whack, mostly used the backups for pattern copying or to just keep a reserve backup... one time while trying to do a backup i accidently erased a pattern thats why i was spooked with using it all the time like that
