I think it's been determined it won't work. If I remember right there is a three somewhere.

Indeed, the SP-404SX software doesn't work for the old 404 because the sample format is different.

Hi everyone,
I've lost the installation CD of the Sp 404-SX sample manager software.
Can someone please post a link to download the .dmg (I'm using a Mac)?
I've looked on Roland's website, but they only put the manual online... :(

I've found the solution.
The website of Roland Europe only displays the manuals... but Roland US has posted the software :)
If anyone is searching like me, here's the link :

how good/fast is the software while both importing and exporting? transferring files with the classic is really too time consuming to be conducive to a workflow.

It is really fast to work with, you can only work with the current set of pads/banks in memory, but you can save 12 sets of all the pads/banks/patterns/settings on an sd card.

What I didn't like is that you can't boost samples to make them louder, only less loud. Also on some samples the level was too high and became distorted and making the level lower did not help, so for some samples it's better to directly record the samples. Not that big of a deal, editing is pretty easy.

The SX uses wav format right? Any audio editor should be able to "boost" your sounds with their normalize function. Though if it's a shitty recording then nothing's going to be able to make it louder/better for you.

thanks warrika. I guess you mean you can't work with back up sets, right? can you save/retrieve a whole bank at one time. the 808 soft is quite cool bc I can grab like 50 samples and import to one pad and it just starts placing them in adjacent pads. it's real easy. the new software work like this?

Oh and if you get funky popping samples; what i would do is record a little lower than you might need and then process the sound in audacity. basicly like toadmoney said.

You just have the set of all the current banks, and as far as I can figure it out you can only work with one sample at a time.

You can, also with the current set of banks only, also work directly with the file samples without software, you have to use the same numbering scheme though, not your own names for the samples.
